Black Orchid by Tom Ford is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Black Orchid was launched in 2006. Black Orchid was created by David Apel and Pierre Negrin. Top notes are Truffle, Gardenia, Black Currant, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange and Amalfi Lemon; middle notes are Orchid, Spices, Gardenia, Fruity Notes, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine and Lotus; base notes are Mexican chocolate, Patchouli, Vanille, Incense, Amber, Sandalwood, Vetiver and White Musk.

Black Orchid was created by perfumers of the fragrance company Givaudan in 2006. It was announced as an oriental chypre. The top notes are French jasmine, black truffle, ylang-ylang, black currant, and effervescent citrus. In the floral-spicy heart, dwells Tom Ford's black orchid, more imaginary than real, and the base combines woodsy notes (patchouli and sandalwood), dark chocolate, incense, amber, vetiver, vanilla, and balsam.

Black Orchid is opulent and classically dark; its fragrance is in line with the best creations of the best perfume houses. A luxurious and sensual fragrance with a rich, dark trace of black orchid and spices, it is modern and timeless. It remains to be said that Black Orchid is long lasting and with a widespread aura.

"This is not about an ordinary orchid, it's about something a little more strange and rare. I wanted the blackest orchid, and those aren't easy to find." The perfume is luxurious and the product range includes Eau de Parfum in 50 ml (at US$90) and 100 ml (at US$135) bottles, and a limited edition of 5,000 15 ml bottles of Parfum at US$600. The distribution is limited.

A perfume that wears you. If you want to scream, "I'm wearing a gourmand," at the top of your lungs without saying a word, get this one. Impossible to ignore. Not necessarily an enjoyable experience for those around you.

I need to leave the room; I'm going to pass out.

arupkumar

This unique smell really has got me the most questions of what it was I was wearing.
It's a bold and so blended and patterned well that you can't find the unique notes unless you try.
Amazing stuff right here.

midget11

I love this scent and how dark, spicy, extremely intense and over the top this is, it makes everyone step into their confident bad bitch vampire shoes. however it can be heavy and suffocating if you have car sickness like me, my mom wore this when I was a kid and it would choke me out in the car. And it kinda seeped into her skin and all her clothes or outerwear...she'd smell like this all the time!! anytime I'd go near her I'd get into this opulent over the top bubble she made for herself. I began wearing it myself as a teenager occasionally, its sooooo potent, perfect for party/night out settings. I love a potent scent but the heavy dark base with the kick from the top notes packs quite the punch here and I wish I wasnt so scentsitive in cars- just something to beware of if you havent tried this yet and aren't used to extravagant pungent scents. If I wasn't medically hampered I would wear this all the time to any remotely dressy event....(altho when i think black orchid i do just think MOMMY SMELL now lol). Growing older I started looking for more smoother comforting scents (even if theyre heavy) that lack sharp/pungent floral kicks and so this one has slowly left my arena

I have not repurchased this since being a teenager, and as an adult moved on to its more wearable pretty sister velvet orchid which is still extravagant but in a pretty and tame way- bc it has honey its smoother with powdery facets, and smells like an upscale/opulent honeyed almond scent which I love. both scents are masterpieces imo and stunning beyond words but ones 'dark feminine vampire' vibe and ones sultry sweet and sexy. I like both on myself equally but only have velvet orchid now due to medical setbacks haha....Apparently loads of men wear this but tbf I cant imagine a guy wearing it unless he is sleek and over the top/clearly stylish, maybe even unconventionally, and also kinda romantic boy and not hypermasculine husky gym dude, people could assume he's gay...or he is...and he DEFO doesnt do the contemporary streetstyle- oversized t shirts/baggy trousers shit, he has refined taste and reminds me of Tom Ford the man himself

Decadance in a bottle. I absolutely get it why it's so polarising and quite many see it as a general turn-off. I myself hated it when I tested it first. But then... that sensation of being enveloped in the dirty, earthy cocoon of the scent got me. It's very earthy and it smells somewhat like nature in general. It projects beastly but it's hard to describe the scent itself, which is why everyone can fantasise about it whatever they like. It does smell somewhat smoky and "undead" to me, but I quite like it. For now it's too mature for me, but I hope to get it one day eventually.

cats_eye

The opening is absolutely a cacophony of notes. I can see why people might get turned off. The drydown is heavenly, however. This is a classic for a reason. Just one spray on the neck is plenty. Maybe one on your arm transferred over. Otherwise this will fill up a room like nothing else.

bartca89

I'm really not understanding how this only scores at 3.9... and the amount of polarizing / sharply negative reviews. I think this fragrance is fantastic. I would say it leans more masculine... I love it on myself. From a masculine point of view, I like this considerably more than any of the "Azzaro The Most Wanted" or "Stronger With You" type of super-sweet frags that are currently the trend for men. This is different, in a very cool way. Kind of reminds me of Fahrenheit Parfum, in terms of its arresting uniqueness and non-conforming boldness. Heck yeah, I'll buy a bottle. (Probably not at full retail....)

markofcain

Masterpiece. Its scent with incredible depth, sweetness and spiciness in equal measure. The opening smells strongly of truffles and various flowers on my skin, then it dries into a strong chocolate smell while still carrying the depth of the amber and wood notes throughout. I wouldn’t recommend blind buying but this is my signature scent, and it has garnered me the most compliments of any scent on nights out on the town. Something about the way it blends with my skin is addicting to me and I always come back to it. Masterpiece. It smells of elegance and allure through and through, it lasts forever on my skin and has great projection. Very feminine but anyone can wear it.

elinkix

Beautiful chypre, smooth and alluring

Hgf2008

Worth the hype.

Not a remotely safe blind buy - I let two friends smell it and both wrinkled their noses up at the opening. It is unique, it is not "likeable" and it's not trying to be. Velvety, truffle-y, chocolatey goodness that lasts forever on the skin. Wear it with chutzpah.

Saveria

I don't like Velvet Orchid but I find this one really beautiful (the opposite of what I thought I would like!).

I first smell flowers, orchids, gardenia, jasmine but it's not a simple floral scent. It's also spicy and there's that little something that I can't determine but which gives depth to the whole (the chocolate?). I had a hard time defining the smell of truffle - which I'm not used to - but I now smell it perfectly. It sounds strange but it works !

The whole thing is very sensual, sexy, mysterious, I love it! It has a very good staying power and sillage, very pleasant.

@Macleay, I doubt your nose is as broken as you might think. The tragedy has also much to do with these inexplicable and endless reformulations. I also recently reached for Tom Ford Noir Extreme at my local Sephora to test it out of curiousity, even though I have a bottle from 2015 at home. The thick sweet nougat/kulfi that I fell in love with years ago has been replaced with a cold, charred black wood note that had me questioning reality.
In short, if you have the bottles of ANYTHING from it's original release... HOLD ON TO THEM.

Jabb

Best perfume ever from TF.

Macleay

I’ve really wanted to love this because everyone talks about how it’s like femme fatale, evil vampire, irresistible minxtress vibe. And I’ve loved Velvet Orchid for years. But smelling it for the second time today at Ulta I reached the inevitable part of my perfume journey where I finally realized that every chocolate note I’ve ever sniffed smells like vomit to me. Like literal vomit, vomit. I kept smelling it immediately after and 20 minutes later, but that’s all I got. This one’s a bitter one, Angel is a sweet one. I don’t mean this offensively towards anyone who loves this scent, I genuinely think something in my nose is inherently and inextricably damaged. Kind of sad about it actually.

Hiddengem

First acquainted at a colleague in the office in 2007. The silliage was very strong. I like it but I didn't want wear the same parfum and I bought it a year and half after I switched my job. Black orchid is an intense fragrance and the person wearing it should be able to carry it. Silliage can be too intense so I've preferred using it lightly. Black orchid eau parfum was a statement until its duplicates started to be seen everywhere. Bot those mostly copied the eau de parfum version. The black bottle. Nothing against dupes as long as they are worthy of the original. So black orchid is a spicy fragrance, blended with chocolate and amber; a hot and sexy blend. Eau de parfum version a little bitter. I love the 2020 parfum version a lot better more aphrodisiac and elegantand not heavy. The orchid is very subtle on that bottle. Definitely earthy patchouli is there. For that period it was for the impression and statement to express yourself stronger.

inesita75

I bought this in France in 2018. I don't know if it has been reformulated since then.
But from my bottle, the longevity and projection are insane.
Last night I sprayed half a spritz on the inner side of my elbow and I can still smell it this morning, even though I'm now wearing long sleeves.
For me, this is all about a very earthy, dirty patchouli. The other notes are way in the background.
It's not my favorite but I like it and it's sophiisticated. I don't know if people in general like it on me, because I never got a compliment on it (the few times I wore it), and they must have been able to smell it, given the beast mode sillage.
It could easily be used by a man.
In any case, be careful with sprays, no more than 2 or you will suffocate yourself and others.
Strictly for going out in winter nights. I usually wear anything, anytime, but this is too much for other occasions, it could easily end up bothering you.

riaxcx

wow this is actually amazing at first I was grossed out by the strong pepper. the dry down on my skin smells addicting smells like black licorish

VilianM.

An absolute masterpiece. Lasts easily 14+ hours. Scent trail is amazing. People saying it smells like a vanilla need a reality check.

riaxcx

smells really peppery with vanilla it smells too masculine to be hot smells too generic to actually own,

dry down wow I'm actually oddly enjoying it smelling the jasmine and amber with the hint of vanilla but the incense smell kind makes it small kinda cheap but actually alluring to me

Anosmia11

I am laughing at the negative comments lol
This is obviously not for everyone.
If you like toothaching sweet fragrance, this is not for you. If you like fruit juice fragrance, this is not for you. If you like happy fragrance, this is not for you.
If you like generic scent, this is not for you.
This is also not so dark. This does not smell “good”, it smells something else. I think you have to have a certain personality to wear it, otherwise this will wear you.
Also, like someone said below, beware of the fakes. BO reached easily on my top 5 the moment I tried it 4 years ago. I could not find this dark (not sweet at all) chocolate in any other perfume I have tried

vogue.v

Its givingggg funeral vibes

drock777

I honestly don't understand the dislike for Black Orchid.
It smells mature and sensual, something you would wear on date to a high end restaurant. Maybe its just my skin, but I never got a rotten fruit smell, and I have yet to hear someone say its smells bad on me. It is still a dark scent for the evening or winter, but not "vampire" dark as some reviewers put it. They say 24 Hour Oud is a copy, but it really only copies the dry down into gourmand goodness; Black Orchid is much more alluring and complex; worth the money imo.
This one is in my regular rotation, and I'd give it a solid 8.5/10.

P.S. Watch out for fakes, they are absolutely everywhere. Some of these reviews are indicative of fake or watered down product.

elmiguel

smells like rotten fruit. definitely a scrubber for me 2/10

DaysScentless

I love this dense sort of perfumery. If I ever make my own I would follow this formula, make it dense and make it heavy. A heavy smell that sticks around. I understand the comments saying they don’t like the smell and each is to their own, but to me this is one of my favourites ever.

Funny how with every "disgusting" review comes one with "the best creation ever", "love it" or "you have to understand this fragrance".

I can handle heavy fragrances. This one stinks and no amount of money for 1000 ml or paid influencers raving about it on YouTube will change that.

Plus the description of the fragrance:
"I wanted the blackest orchid, and those aren't easy to find."
Well, orchids don't smell - you have to create the fragrance yourself. They can be black I guess if you dye them so it will also be artificial in some way. I think this fragrance is totally based on marketing and not on what's inside.

Good social test though: create a totally stinky fragrance nobody would ever try unless you give it your name and a good (meaning: high) price tag. Then wait.

masonreeves

Simply disgusting

travisscottlover911

The worst Tom Ford i have ever smelled. Dont buy this shit is ass

Tigerlilley9

I’ve dabbled with fragrance on and off over the years, but it has recently become my ADHD hobby (idk why I’m like this either).

As I have been experimenting, sampling, researching, and figuring out what I like and don’t like, Black Orchid has been one of the ones that keeps coming up. In fact, it comes up so frequently as something I would like “on paper” I considered blind buying it. My fragrance journey/education has taught me to be open minded, because as it turns out, aroma/scent is a very complex experience. (Before I started sampling, I would have boldly told you I like watery florals and that I do not like patchouli. lol. WRONG.)

Fast forward to me happening across Black Orchid at a store today: I smelled the tester and felt immediate disappointment. “Blegh! Cough syrup!” Currant often has that effect on me.

I know enough now not to judge a perfume that way. Since I wasn’t wearing any other scent, and I’ve been really wanting to try this one, I said, “f*ck it,” and gave each of my forearms a good spray. For a while my thoughts were along the lines of, “People find this witchy, sexy or unisex? It’s cloyingly sweet!” (Ylang-ylang?)

Fast forward to the dry down, and now I get it. I am kind of in love with it. I think I will have to buy some of this. Or maybe I should just buy an incense stick from a hippie store and rub it all over myself. Maybe that’s really what I want. I don’t know anymore.

bloodsniffer

smelling this almost made me throw up, i had to fight to make myself not throw up. gross. smells incredibly medicinal. smells like 90 year old man who needs assistance in his molding old house. I keep smelling the strip because i'm so fascinated by how horrible it smells and my body's strong reaction of complete repulsion to this fragrance.

Ana Letic

Love it!!! This is something unique and decadent, I have not smelled anything like that before. I get compliments everytime I wear it, people say it smells gorgeous on me.

Meredithe

It will never cease to amaze me how one can spend so much or any amount of money for that matter in order just to stink.

Kqxede

Sorry but it smells too strong and way too masculine for me

TonyG

The only fragrance I've ever smelled that gives me an INSTANT headache. I wish I was joking. I spent $25 on a travel spray size for this shit and I've never been so pissed and felt ripped off ever. I've tried alot of Tom Ford frags and I just can't get into any of them. They all smell like old lady. Tobacco Vanille smells like old lady who smokes and eats Werther's Originals. Lost Cherry smells like Old lady who drinks Cherry Lemsips.Black Orchid smells like old lady who's been looking for truffles in a forest with a wet dog, needed the bathroom but there was none close so she shit her depends, whilst eating a dark chocolate bar, found a truffle, kept it in her depends, crawled home, stripped her clothes off and burned them in her yard. This stuff is the most disgusting pile of corpse I've ever smelled. I don't know why Tom Ford's frags are so popular, probably because they're expensive and people like buying expensive shit just because they can tell others they do. I wouldn't take a bottle of this for free. It is the worst fragrance I've ever smelled in my life. And for those who say dumb shit like "you just don't get it". F$£K OFF!! You're not suppose to get a smell. You're suppose to enjoy it. The only time I ever wore this (I had to try it on my skin regardless of how much I didn't want to) someone legit asked me if I had been near fermenting fruit or burning plastic. I told her it was Tom Ford and she said "well tell Tom to take it back". 0/10. And Tom, you owe me $25!!!!

addangel

I blind bought this perfume because I convinced myself I would like it. While I do enjoy the spiciness, the sweet note reminds me a little of rot, of mould. I think it’s probably the chocolate and orchids. It’s an unusual combo for sure. I’m hoping to love it in the colder months.

kaleidoscopeeyes1

No matter how hard I try, I can't get the strong, dominant and mysterious vibe from this perfume. Sure, you would get noticed if you wore this in a crowd but it is not the type that will get liked by everybody. I heavily get chocolate and spices with a touch of floral notes. Definitely not unisex in my opinion, but if you like it on your skin, go ahead. As expected from the notes, very long lasting.

isolaviola

Warm, very spicy, dark and complex, dominant. This is the unisex scent for a stone cold female CEO, your slightly evil finance bro ex boyfriend... or a dominatrix. Fringes on being gothic but with more fire. If you want to feel powerful and get a confidence boost, this fragrance is perfect. It does not fuck around. Long lasting, great projection without being overpowering. It commands respect and is a scent that demands to be noticed - if you're about being subtle, this isn't the fragrance for you - but it isn't so much that it's distracting. Definitely a headturner that evokes feelings of wealth, boldness and power.

DaysScentless

@aresnal till I die

What a weird comment to make

Arsenal Till I Die

I don’t find this unisex and would hate to smell it on either gender or anyone for that matter. The floral component is disgusting to me and reminds me of a toilet spray. Suits a more mature human being but not smelling it at all on anyone would be better. Horrible stuff. And if people don’t agree that’s fine but have a cry elsewhere and don’t @ me saying my opinions are weird. Cheers.

Saffron

Love this. I have no idea why it’s touted as being for women. This is unisex! Unisex and IMHO, more on the masculine side. Sexy and mysterious, I loved it, but I bought velvet orchid for myself because black orchid smelled too butch on me as a girly person.

erayikari

sarp

Tom Ford Black Orchid EDP

Smell 7.5/10
Projection 2-3ft
Longevity 6-8hrs
Price 7/10

First time trying this, safe to say this leans unisex leaning masculine, definitely a must try.

Morgan45

Medicinal, loud, vintage (even outdated), unisex-to-masculine. Not for me.

Karielle

I get zero vanilla or floral from this scent. In fact, its almost repulsive. It has a very off-putting & prominent note that I can only describe as "wet dog". Definitely not a safe blind buy.

Khushi95

This is a beast mode perfume. It is unisex and lasts forever especially on clothes. Its a special occasion kind of scent and you need to be really careful with the number of sprays. I would recommend not to blind buy as this is not something everyone would like. Definitely test it before buying.
Also i used to wear this years back but now i am kinda bored with this one..so i think buying a small bottle would be enough as it will last a long time and this isn’t something people would repurchase as you need to have an acquired taste to like this one.

fatiher123

It is definitely a unisex perfume, men can also use it.
I bought this perfume upon the recommendation of my girlfriend. I was prejudiced against floral scents at first. I liked this perfume over time. silage and performance
very well, but you may get bored of this perfume after a while. I don't think I will want to buy a second bottle after finishing my bottle.

Note: Please do not use this perfume in hot weather.

Rwertz123

I was at Sephora and smelled this on a test strip because I hear a lot about it but this is not a good scent… I would say it leans on the masculine side but even for a man I don’t like the smell. There’s something that makes it super spicy but not in a good spice way. It’s off putting, and when you smell it, it almost burns your nose. There may be people that like this scent, and hey that’s okay! But definitely not a safe blind buy, you also need a specific taste for this scent!

chainsmokerbarbie

don’t get me wrong i love a dark vintage smelling fragrance but this is literally sick and twisted

i smelt this in sephora and was excited because all i’ve heard about it was “sexy, mysterious, dark, blablabla” but instead i had a physical reaction like a bitch flinched
i can’t even describe the smell no please just no

Devved

I always will remember this fragrance because I found out about it when I was walking around the store and this hot, all dressed in black, sporty/athlete guy (kind of looked like Jamie Dornan) walked into the store. He walked right in front of the Tom Ford counter, and was loudly talking on the phone saying ''I can`t talk right now, I don`t have time! wait!'' and then picked up the Black Orchid bottle, looked at the price and said ''Fuck it'' and went to buy it.

Had this for a year now. If you are looking to purchase either Velvet Orchid or this one, just keep in mind that they are two different perfumes. Velvet Orchid is floral and not heavy. Black Orchid is heavy, smooth, and medicinal smelling. I wasn`t familiar with orchid notes in perfumery, so for a great while I didn`t even smell it. For me it smells like chocolate, truffle, vanilla and sandalwood and liquorice. The orchid is just in the background, but in Velvet Orchid its upfront. This is definitely unisex. Really strong longevity and projection. If you are a strong personality and want to be noticed and respected this is the perfume for you. Don`t be discouraged from trying this, it smells expensive and I don`t see it ever smelling outdated. It`s a classic.

Mysterious and dark- but it has a medicinal vibe a little bit, like cough syrup. The bottle and fragrance is reminiscent of a 1900`s chemist bottles. Never have smelled anything like it, this is a must have.

Lexi30

My boyfriend uses this perfume and it's the only one he has. Goddamn, this perfume smells even better on a man than on a woman as initially intended!
Super spicy and manly, though a bit overpriced for what it is, as it doesn't last that long, maybe 5 hours on him....but definitely a smell to remember and I absolutely love it on him!

Kitmarin08

The drydown smells decent on my skin but I have to really convince myself to wear it. Everything else is just too heavy. I really do get old man who gives unsolicited, too tight hugs vibes.

big.mos.q

Someone needs to get fired.

JoolsF1

I am one of those women that absolutely hates generic 'pretty, 'floral' perfumes. I find Prada Paradoxe sickly sweet. I LOVED Mugler's Aura (don't like Angel or Alien). Disappointed when they discontinued Aura I searched for something else. For me NOTHING will ever match Aura. However, I do not understand the negative comments about Tom Ford's Black Orchid - I really like it. It has become my 'wear all the time' perfume. So now 'my' perfume is Black Orchid. Longevity - 16 hours after spraying my wrists I can still smell a trace on my skin. Sillage - limited, reducing quite quickly. It doesn't have the deep sensuality that I loved about Aura, but it does have a lasting warm, musky appeal. I can happily live with this perfume.

exotic.vsp

in my own opinion this is a horrible fragrance and i DO NOT reccomend this

Aeternitas

If there was a scent inspired by red flags in a relationship, it’s this.

First spray is a beautiful symphony of chocolate truffle orchid majesty, but MY GOD the dry down is horrific … I cannot do obvious vetiver notes in a perfume.
I simply *cannot*.
I am a vetiver magnet. It sticks to me and I, in turn, magnify its scent by a thousand fold.

An hour later after spraying Black Orchid all over me, I am in vetiver hell. I am so VET-OVER IT. Ha.

This had so much potential, but the notes I like disappear entirely into that shitstorm of vetiver, and just ends up smelling like cheap men’s cologne.
I can barely stand myself, at this point.

Edit: By the notes and descriptions from reviewers, I should have loved this. I almost wonder if there's been reformulations on this one, too. I am not familiar with BO enough to tell if there is something different, but I can hardly believe I am wearing the same "dark, evil, vampiric, mysterious" perfume as others here. 'Cause this ain't it.

unrealisanannagra

I’ve already reviewed this before but I always come back to my Black Orchid to give it some hype whenever I wear it. All of the negative reviews are valid. Certain fragrances it’s preposterous why anyone would have anything bad to say about a lovely fragrance but this isn’t the case here. It’s evil, vampy, mysterious, dark, on the prowl, all the works. It’s funny because I used to spray this at Sephoras and be so utterly repulsed when I walked out and on a strange day it grew on me. One of those classic dark fragrances in its category without smelling like a church and dive bars. Refined. Classy. Not for everyone. But that’s a good thing.

Gabriella.0

I don't understand how anyone can like this. I've tried it so many times in atores like Sephora hoping i get a new reaction. Each time it smelled horrible! It's just dirty, dust and smoke with some weird rubbinf alcohol smell that never goes away. It makes me wanna gag more than any perfume i've sampled so far :(

I like to wear this when I'm really dressed up...usually weddings or funerals. Lasts forever and definitely grabs attention. Please test first!

iltvwowv

Smells like a funeral to me

Jesse's Fragrances

Just like the Ombré Leather (my least favorite Tom Ford), I went to Dillards to smell a sample of it. Very interesting smell, I consider it unisex. It smells like rich people and vampires. Fruity and dark at the same time. It could fit on a businesswoman or businessman, you have to be dressed up to wear it. Not really a casual fragrance. Another great Tom Ford fragrance!

Someone said Joe Biden would wear this. I think that he would wear Obsession, Gendarme, or maybe Polo Green. I picture Donald Trump wearing this for some reason. (I know, he wears Success by Trump) Michael Jackson was known to wear this.

angelbeast

This is what a high-society vampire smells like. Creamy, smooth, self-assured, with a heart of utter darkness. Dangerously warm and inviting; frighteningly seductive. Not easily forgotten.

RER

Loved it for many years. It’s just a little too strong maybe my bottles a little old not really sure, but it is dirty and sexy. I just get too much of a patchouly smell all of a sudden.

SalZs

This is more of a note-to-self rather than a review.

Pretty sure this is what pure evil smells like.
It probably works for people who can pull off “vampy likeable villain”, but it’s certainly not for me. I need to leave the room when I smell this on someone, and I’m usually surrounded by real oud and heavy fragrances, so that’s saying something. I blind bought this years ago at the duty free (can’t remember why), then went back to the counter and sprayed it on my wrist. Throughout the whole flight, I wanted to jump off the plane for the sake of the other passengers.
Previous reviews said it smells like Cruella or politicians and I have to agree.

DaysScentless

Really dense and dark. Perfectly blended florals alongside chocolate and truffle. Love wearing this and even love it more when a woman wears this’s

4.7/5 🤤

luvfreshfruityfloral

so intense and complex. gives dark feminine/maneater vibes. if zodiac signs had signature scents - this would be the fragrance for scorpios. I love it <3

rennk

My favorite party fragrance at the moment. Wore it to a club and got complimented for it, got a free drink. Very dominant and incense heavy, feels like a sexy church or something. I would wear this every day, day and night if it wasn't such an intense scent for day. If they ever come out with a more watered down / light version I'll definitely be buying it. It doesn't last long on me but I don't know that might just be a me problem since all my other fragrances that are supposed to have good longevity don't let very long on me either. Overall, love it; 8/10.

toosimilar

@croatus i think you are actually right
from what I remember, "old" BO was smth i liked
current formulation i tried at Duty Free was disgusting
That's why i removed Hate reaction to this - years before BO was really pretty and unique:)

iblamesaud

despite the fact it's hard for me to like a perfume, I fell in love with this when I smelled it first in 2011, it's special and mysterious, and people ask what I'm wearing everywhere I go. however I don't think its suitable for everyone especially teens and young adults. imo its the kind of scent you would smell on your rich uncle, its mature and dark and not everyone can pull it off. Sillage 10/10 people smell it from 3 meters away even tho I sprayed it 4 hours earlier, and longevity is also 10/10 it stays on my clothes 3 days, some people say its overpriced but personally I don't think it is because it will last for ages 5 sprays is all you need.

croatus

Even when I bought this in 2013/2014 I was aware that there were a lot of fakes out there. I had this crazy luck and landed an original for around 100$. It really lasts for ages and 2 sprays are more than enough - if you don't shower it will last for 24h+. I haven't worn it a long time and I think my bottle is still at 90%.

Yesterday I went out and friend's wife was wearing it. It smelt familiar and very nice, but a bit different than I remember mine being. Today I tried my on and I'm 100% sure that they are different. Mine is way more deep, chocolatey, floral, smooth with a hint of spices, absolutely no sharpness. New formulation is way more spicy, sharp, much more "out there".

It makes me so happy that I have the old original. Keep in mind that these reviews really can't be trusted because you don't know for which version you're reading a review for. There is old version, new version and fakes.

Lykopa

Spicy, animalic, incense and sandalwood. It’s not terribly original to my nose, and it reminds me of a dreary day. Becomes a tad more floral as it dries. I was looking forward to the truffle note and got none of it. Whomp whomp.

adl83

Just got a sample bottle of this. This is the fragrance I would imagine Joe Biden smells like.

Mamab

This is a true love fragrance for me. We’ve been in a relationship for 13 years now and I hope to always have a bottle of Black Orchid on my shelf. She isn’t for everyone; not everyone gets her. This is not a safe blind buy but if Black Orchid works with your skin, it’s magic… dark magic. There is so much going on, making this a hard fragrance to describe. Black Orchid is mysterious and sexy and bold. She is a beast mode performer both in terms of longevity and silliage. This a must have and an always have for me!

Heliotrope72

Rating: 🧐🍑
Do I like it: Yes
Who it is: A classy vampiric tramp, Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3, the dom/me in bed
Smells I get: truffle, white florals, blackcurrant, chocolate, powder, sandalwood, amber, incense
Meyer's Briggs type: INTJ, ENTP

Opens up like a medicinal dried flower, blooms into the heart of gardenia and rich, juicy blackcurrants, and dries down to the scent of powdery dark chocolate with some white gardenias blooming nearby.

It's very well balanced, medicinal, chocolate-y sour sweet, but whether it pulls seductive or deplorable will depend on how your skin develops it. I think it's very seductive, a little bit villainesque (though it's got nothing on Poison by Dior on that scale), and a bit comforting.

Ultimately, I like the medicinal opening part, but for me it shines the most about 30minutes into the opening. I find it strangely comforting, like coming home to a warm house, a seductive lady willing to shaboink and some hot chocolate. Extremely elegant, intelligent and warm. A dominant's perfume.

MySkin

Sometimes you may find a scent interesting and strangely alluring for some unknown reason.
But after all one need to ask themselves "Do I really want to smell like that?"
A client of mine asked me if I know a perfume that smells like a funeral and Black Orchid immediately came to mind.
I see a good reason to part with it now and be happy someone else will appreciate it.
I'd rather keep the cheaper but softer and more wearable version of Ard Al Zaafaran , Oud 24 hours.

gr3ycloak

i mean, it's not exactly bad. somebody else said this smells like cruella de vil and i have to agree. that truffle opening note is definitely too strong, and i couldn't see myself wearing this seriously, let alone as a signature fragrance, but i can see why some people would like this.

dasha11596

This isn’t a COMPLETELY horrible smelling perfume, but it just reminds me of an old lady. I feel like I’ve smelled this scent before on people so it’s not very unique to my nose. I pick up on the incense note and the woodiness for sure, but I also pick up on a sort of leathery/medicinal note. I definitely would not buy this.

Kkardaper

I love this fragrance so much! I found a cheap bottle after going through many samples and I wear it often in the fall and winter. It's dark and sexy. I love the way it smells on me and others do too.

I was working the other day and this gorgeous women with this long knit duster walked by and I complimented her outfit. I walked by her again and I got a whiff and I was obsessed. I looked a her and said "what are you wearing" she said Black Orchid by TF I was so surprised because its my signature but it smelled so much different on her, it was amazing.

This goes to prove that this scent isn't for any body and I think you really have to have the right chemistry and style to suit it well.

Koyash

Dry-down smells like lube on my skin

searose27

horrible

Talsche

This thing is not for beginners. I first bought it on a blind buy in the summer and thought it was terrible. Over the years I learned how to use it. It is suitable for cold winter weather only and also better at night. It is suitable for specific evenings where you have chosen to wear black and bring out your dark side. Learn how to use this because it's very easy to hate this fragrance. For those who know how to use it, it is a work of art. Projection and longevity is out of this world be careful while you spraying

irlus

This is what Cruella De Vil's fur coat smells like.

Nosey_parker

Candied mushroom.

jayvi123

Doesn't appeal to everybody for sure, yet the chocolate, vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood gives rise to an aura that would be reminiscent of dark and seductive, quite addicting to smell over and over again.

AkselSvEn

shit smells like a depressing black withered flower that has been sitting in the rain at a funeral and i love it

felixpetters

Very good unisex Fragrance! The first thing that i got in mind when i smelt this Fragrance was a blue razzberry slushie for some reason. I would give this a 8.75/10 wish that performance was a bit better Even though it is good

Querty

Not sure how i feel about this parfume.
A lot is going on. It doesnt smell cheap at all. But it Also isnt a scent i would want to smell like.
If i smelled this on another person, i wouldnt think they smelled Nice. Its just not that type og scent for me. I Can Pick up on many of the notes, but the feeling Im getting is insense. Deffinitly not something i want to smell like.

To the people who are saying everyone who dislikes this either is poor or has no sense og smell. This is just not true.

This is a very unique smell, but deffinitly not for everyone

LePianoMan

I do really love this. Warm, creamy, chocolaty, almost like a raspberry jelly filled dark chocolate.

There are so many notes and they all just blend beautifully. It’s not a nuclear perfume by any means but for. I’ve had it on for about 3 hours now and it does project a foot still- I’m still getting wafts. I hope I get at least 5 hours out of this because if I do I’ll be quite happy. Just such a well blended amazingly smooth and sexy perfume.

Also glad this works as well as it does with my skin chemistry. I think this will probably ALWAYS have a place in my collection going forward.

Jloveparfum

BLACK ORCHID by TF: This is a Chypre-Oriental creation, which combines mystery, intensity and sophistication. For almost two decades, this perfume has been a benchmark in the art of perfumery.

It begins in a captivating way, bright and dark at the same time, absolutely warm, sweet, floral and intoxicating, with musky and earthy, green and citrus accords, which unfold towards an opulent heart of creamy, white and yellow flowers (orchids, jasmine , gardenias, ylang-ylang, among others) elegantly intertwined with spices and fruits.

As time passes I can appreciate the exquisite smell of chocolate, that superior quality dark chocolate that provides a bitter and warm touch, along with the sumptuous vanilla that sweetens the fragrance, creating an attractive mix of amber and balsamic accords, with woods of patchouli and vetiver, while a halo of incense emerges that surrounds the entire composition. Imparting depth, richness and beauty.

The substantivity is excellent, more than 12 hours on my skin. The diffusion and sillage are impressive!

On certain occasions, this perfume becomes a tool of seduction. Its essence, inspired by classic and signature perfumery, displays high-quality fragrances that evoke more the exclusivity of niche perfumery than commercial ones.

In my opinion, this perfume is timeless and avant-garde at the same time, it is distinguished by its femininity, exoticism and elegance

@PotPourri1
You are right, but missing one thing, this is not for everyone. Black Orchid is really wicked.

PotPourri1

While I generally like Tom Ford and I was really intruiged by the notes, I dislike this fragrance. I can only smell chemical/industrial waste, cocoa and some decaying flowers In a really bad mix.
I want to answer to someone two comments below: just because you like one particular designer or niche fragragrance does not automatically mean you have a better, more mature or more sophisticated sense of smell than someone who enjoys aquolina pink sugar. There are also many people who enjoy mainly designer or niche fragrances (me included) who still find this utterly unpleasant without necessarily being low quality. The sense of smell is much more complex than that. Someone who is entitled to consider people with different tastes "children" should be able to tolerate critiques on fragrances he/she likes much better. Literally the only "nasty" rewiew I read is this one. Our olfactory systems are built different and that is fascinating.

toosimilar

@wondervalley666 dammit, i feel like everything they are selling at online stores is complete scam these days, unfortunately. They are ideally copying the packaging, the bottle, the fonts, etc. And it's terrible that they last for 1-2.5h at max, yes

wondervalley666

@betty_bounce YEP, sounds like you bought a fake! 90% of the Tom Ford bottles on eBay are very convincing fakes. With real batch codes too. The fakes are most easily recognizable because they smell “off” or they don’t project or they don’t last more than 1-2 hrs. Also, if you put it in a dark cool cabinet for a year, the fakes will loose most notes and turn to alcohol water.

I never get distinct florals from this scent, only subtle florals that blend well to make this a unique fantastic scent. I live in a desert climate that is very harsh on perfumes. Very windy, dry, with an intense sun that burns off perfumes. Sometimes freezing cold, sometimes blistering hot. Here, black orchid lasts 12+ hrs regardless of weather. It opens a bit sharp and woody but dries down to an insanely addictive sweet earthy gourmand with one of the only patchoulis I can enjoy.

I actually just came here to post another useless review stating how first impression I wasn’t sure, but this scent grew on me and hooked me in big time. I’d rank it as one of my top 10. I have too many perfumes I love so that’s a pretty high ranking. Stellar performance, insanely addictive drydown, sexy, sultry, goth leaning perfection. I only bought 1oz a month or two ago but already ordered a big bottle backup, despite having plenty of the small bottle left. Performance is so great that you don’t need to waste your scent respraying. I also found fragrancenet selling a big bottle of the EDT for an insanely cheap price so I bought that too, and it smells practically identical and lasts very long as well. I’ve been wearing this scent a lot lately, usually in the evenings when I wear black (I wear a lot of black). I’m a woman, and this is feminine leaning unisex on me. Its sweet, it dries down very much to a seductive dark femme fatale scent. My husband loves it. I’m glad to learn based on some sad reviews here, that wearing this perfume will also repel unwanted men and make them run away from me. SCORE! This fragrance just keeps giving!

This scent is a masterpiece. I’m so glad I finally took the plunge and tried it. I will keep this in my collection forever. Don’t mind the bad reviews. They’re all haters who can’t afford the real thing (even though this is very low price considering the performance and quality). Or they’re young people who only like one specific smell and hate everything that challenges their stubborn youthful ideas of perfection. Or they have the perfume taste equivalent of being a grown adult who only eats butter noodles and chicken nuggets with ketchup. Perfumes that don’t smell like marshmallows or the cheap fruity body spray section of Victorias Secret are good too, FYI. Believe it or not, there are probably many people who don’t like your favorite scents either. Chill, children, perfume is literally just buying a happy feeling. No need to get nasty. And only review perfumes you properly test and know are authentic.✌️

betty_bounce

What has happened here?? On first spray, hideous. Gag-inducing. Like I’d fallen into a dumpster. If I could’ve found a bathroom, I would’ve scrubbed. Yes, it was a solid spray I put on, but still, I’m not usually sensitive to big fragrances. After 30 minutes… heaven! Rich, floral patchouli chocolate. I couldn’t smell deep enough. Give me this over oxygen any day. And it laaaaasted.

That was an early sample when it was newish out. The bottle I just received…? A sultry floral. Hint of fermented fruit. Not unpleasant at all. Dare I say… safe? And all but gone after 2 hours. Wha…??? Is it a fake?

jokcoy

Very strong dark floral and earthy frags. So dark I love it so much. Not for anyone tho, cause it's really strong. Great fro cold night. That strong scent will hit you in the face and it's so damn good. Not a blind buy safe

JaySentz

This iconic scent is a permanent in my collection. As with many TF fragrances the name really does reflect the smell = dark earthy floral, mysterious and bold. The truffle (fungal and chocolate kind) against the florals is intoxicating. Blended so well it’s hard to pick out one specific note. Leather isn’t mentioned but I feel like there is a synthetic leather vinyl like impression from the combination of elements in a good way.

I was surprised to see that people find this more masculine because it feels unisex to me depending on what notes you focus on.

It lasts all day and leaves a great trail. It’s also one of the more affordable TFs.

PurlyGirl

I got this in a sample set from Sephora, and it's one of only 2 in the set that I just threw in the trash because after giving it a few tries I had no interest in trying it again. Being able compare Black Orchid, Black Opium, and Black Tulip made it especially obvious to me that this just wasn't the best strong date night perfume for me. This just smells heavy and way too strong.

I actually really liked Black Tulip, go check that one out if you don't like this one.

Aya.3101

Had a strong Jasmine smell which I am not a fan of

East River Pearl

Not ultimately for me but interesting. Very strong on the truffle. The hints of chocolate remind me of Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium. This is darker, more androgynous, more mature. Not getting any of the florals but do get some of the woody notes, and the citrus.

akshat_dudeja

Used to own a bottle of this a few years ago, and I used it as my daily wear scent in the winters cuz it was cozy, spicy, with a perfect hint of chocolate, and it used to perform great too. But a few days ago I visited the Tom Ford store, and tested this one on my arm just to bring back the nostalgia. And wtf? It smells so different ffs. Just straight up dirty spicy the whole time, barely any chocolate(which i always loved in this), and it faded away in just about 2-3 hours. I used to have a 2019 bottle, but wtf is wrong with the current stuff, smells so bad, and performs even worse, I'm 100% sure it's not due to my skin that it would smell bad, there something is terribly wrong with this scent, guys please buy a sample of this before committing to a full bottle, I just don't have words to express my disappointment !!

nina4tj

I tried a sample of this and all I can say is thank goodness for samples. This is a scrubber. All I smell is musky truffle I believe. Masterpiece where? It’s awful!

lormp

I’ll be honest, the first spray is awful. Matter of fact, let me tell you the opening is disgusting. Yes it smells like cat urine. That will linger on paper.

BUT, spray it on your skin, let it sit for 15 mins and it’s amazing. Definitely one of my favorite scents. Mysterious, dark, floral and sweet (but not gourmand). Perfectly unisex, but i do feel like you have to be able a certain type of person to pull this off.

If you’re a bubbly bright person, skip this one. If you’re a mysterious person, love to wear black clothing, this ones for you.

celi

I gave black orchid different chances but it will always smell foul and repulsive to me. Like a nasty, both fermented and moldy piece of dark chocolate. This piece of chocolate unfortunately also got lost between the fat rolls of a woman who loves booze a bit too much. I agree it has a dark allure though, like if said woman was lying narcotized on the couch, in the living room of the Addams family mansion. But there is also a dumpster nearby.

scenturian

@JJ22_22
You nailed it.

JJ22_22

Evil. Liquid Evil 😈. I like it!

sarp

Definitely a top 5 Tom Ford fragrance out right now! Love it from the start to the end, The only downside is that its mostly only a winter fragrance. Yet it being a named a female fragrance I stand by saying its more unisex.

AleksOud

The notes on top are so misleading - first and foremost it is a dense intoxicating floral, although it opens up gourmandy like opening a box of chocolates.

The fragrance is very strong, it has some liquor note in the background too but the florals always play the first fiddle.

The sillage and longevity are enormous, this is an ultimate statement fragrance and not safe for work for sure, unless you all use it. Instantly recognizable, I see it as a female fragrance, I would not like it on a man personally, especially that it used to be my favorite perfume until I got bored with it a bit after I used the whole big bottle. I now use it occasionally on a midweek pub/concert night out in autumn.

Gyps

Can’t find my original review but I think I posted it way over a year ago. Have used this only twice since then. I find it quite meh 🫤
Can’t distinguish any notes, there’s so many listed that it just smells like one big mish mash of nothing. It definitely has a distinct smell, but nothing I can put my finger on. It’s not pretty or nice, it’s dirty, and tends to take your breath away.
I think TF fumes are overrated and overpriced. This one gives me barbershop vibes. It will be going on eBay.

SL.MS1958

@Dipietro, that’s funny. 😏 I tried a sample of TF Black Orchid years ago when it first came out, and my husband HATED it. He asked me to never wear that again, and he is very tolerant 99% of the time.

Dipietro

If I smelt this on a woman I would run for miles.

Everything by Tom Ford is over priced Everything.

DARK, GORGEOUS AND POIGNANT BLACK FLOWER

I like strong poignant perfumes. I always have loved this one in particular and since its launch, even if it has originally was designed for the gentle sex. This is a man's perfume or at most, it is a unisex one. It is too masculine to be considered a feminine scent only. I use it, I love it and my wife shares it with me. I also don't believe it is meant for youngsters.
Its darkness is striking but not offensive. It is my concept of a vampire scent. It is deep dark, almost solid black, but, here and there, we can spot some vivid floral sweet colours (and scents), together with a smoothness that enchants everybody. Some notes like blackcurrant and truffle in the top, black orchid in the middle, and the dark chocolate/patchouli/vetiver/frankincense in the bottom produce a magnificent orchestration that I can only qualify as melodious. Performance is quite above average.
Its gloominess is really alluring and appealing. I noticed that more men than women recognize to like it.
This is my preferred fragrance by Tom Ford along with "Noir de Noir", "Tobacco Vanille" and "Noir Extreme".
Let's see if the math scoring is kind for this dark flower:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Opening: 9.75 (black truffle with blackcurrant and floral sweetness)
DryDown: 9.25 (dark vetiver and dark vanilla amidst sandalwood, incense, and balms)
Longevity: 9.0 (3 sprays may last 9+ hours, close to 10~11 hours)
Sillage: 8.0 (up to 6 feet at its peak and 2 hours strong projection, with 3 sprays)
Uniqueness: 8.5 (it's not Tom Ford's fault to exist more than 20 "look-alikes" of Black Orchid. Nevertheless, some of them are really wearable and do present a nice turn on Black Orchid; Example: "Royal Gold" by Charriol, "Collection Extraordinaire" by Van Cleef & Arpels" by Van Cleef & Arpels and "Oud 24 Hours" by Ard Al Zaafaran)
Wearability: 7.5 (avoid any type of hot weather)
Versatility: 7.5 (Just avoid situations where you may sweat like crowded places, workout, or by the sea; the fragrance is quite poignant so be careful not to overspray and awake Black Orchid haters.)
Compliments: 8.5 (This fragrance it's not a universal pleaser, but will work as a compliment magnet for any black fragrance lover)
Quality: 9.5 (Well above average quality juice blending, quality ingredients, nice flask, nice sprayer)
Presentation: 9.5 (no faults, simple but very elegant, and way prettier than the Tom Ford private line bottles)
Price: 6.5 (100 ml non-tester with a €120~€150 pricetag at major net dealers)
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Overall rating: 8.51/10.00
- between 7 and 8 =above average;
- between 8 and 9 = recomended;
- bigger than 9 = don't miss it;

My opinion: This gem is a fantastic fragrance. It's quite curious that my lowest rating is the "Price" feature. Without this single low feature rating, the overall mark would be an impressive 8.70 - quite high for such a specific strong scent.
I recommend it even with its reasonably high price!
If it's too strong for you, try the EDT version or the Velvet Orchid flanker. If you want some more punch, jump to the Parfum edition golden flask.

Music: Pink Floyd - "Comfortably Numb"

Black Orchid. Wow. I may differ from others below but I think this is unisex/feminine leaning. When I first tried it, it seemed to perfectly compliment the silky, floral teal dress I had on, made me feel exceptionally elegant. It was April, rainy, and everything just blended beautifully together in that moment. Many describe this as a dark/gothic perfume and I can see that, but for me, it just makes me think of spring rain: The humidity and density of it, growth, the earth budding and blooming, and the roots underneath soaking it up. To clarify, it does NOT smell like mud; I'm only speaking metaphorically. It's deep. It's profound. It's beauty. It's mysterious, alluring. It's raw, feminine creation/energy. Hard to explain. Super sophisticated, and as others have mentioned, this is a masterpiece of fragrance, truly an art. It takes you on a journey and really transcends the sum of its parts. Regarding performance, Black Orchid lasts on my skin for about 6-7 hours, projecting loudly in the first two then fading eventually to a skin scent by hour 5.

whiteorchid23

This perfume smells really masculine.
When I smelled it for the first time I thought it was a male fragrance.
For some reason it smells better on men than on women.
It's a great fragrance though.

amethystfeline

got a bottle of this as a gift because i have a reputation for being dark and mysterious or whatever. the fungal note in here is crazy—it reads kinda plasticky to me, somehow?? overall this is 1. mushroom 2. flowers 3. chocolate. i love weird dark stuff and i expect this to grow on me, but right now the truffle note is throwing me off and i go anosmic too quick to appreciate the drydown. i appreciate the artistry and expect to like this more the longer i spend time with it. very unique and pairs well with jazzy cocktail bars.

Jim_Smith

On freezing days, when I was in a playfully obnoxious mood, I wore this. The whole experience arrived like a bomb, the instant you hit the trigger. The blackcurrant was powerful. One spray was probably enough, but I did 2 to be safe.
I was running low after 5 years, so ordered a new sample.
Initial impression is, it's seriously weakened. The eruption of blackcurrant is missing. This juice slowly reveals itself, instead of coming on full force like my first batch. The succulent blackcurrant note never looms large like it used to.
Does it need to mature?
No. My first batch was as potent on day 1 as it it is now, and seemed to last longer.
Maybe the new one's nose blinding me. But when I leave and re-enter a room, it's waiting in the air

Nucka

How this not have tobacco in it , for me its very spicy too spicy i dont like it. its something like too sweet but also too spicy and masculan

yungnomad

This scent is a trip.

Upon initial spray I was hit with the floral notes. I don't usually care for floral heavy perfumes, which is why I really came to appreciate the chocolatey, woody notes that soon followed. Through the day the incense, amber and sandalwood really made their presence known. For some reason I had a hard time defining the citrus top notes. They were almost not existent to me.

Although this is a beautiful scent there is a lot going on. I felt a bit overwhelmed for the first few hours but I possibly sprayed a bit too much to begin with.

This is a really gorgeous and complex scent. Definitely not one to blind buy, could be "too much" for some. Also doesn't read as an everyday perfume to me. Seems like it would be perfect for a night out in winter, gives the allure of being sensual, sweet and feminine while also being dark and mysterious.

lxybv

personally, it kinda smells like that 90-95% dark chocolate, pretty nice i think

Revontuli

I can't believe I ignored Black Orchid for long. I've had it in my collection, yes, but just until recently I have become obsessed with it. Something in my fragrance journey must have changed now that I can appreciate this incredible beauty.

To me Black Orchid is the "film noir" of the fragrance world. I wish so much that Tom Ford went back to the origins; back to representing bold, erotic and noir perfumery and gave us more gems like this and Noir de Noir.

Itsdombby

May or may not have found a fabulous duo. Layer this with the new Delicia Drench (Cheirosa 59) body butter with this and OMFG is amazing!!! The notes compliment each other beautifully!! 🥰

Mc1995

I think I’ve written a review before, but wearing this again today. Every time I wear this I’m astounded by its beauty. They don’t make them like this anymore! And this is only from 2006. Funny I guess it wasn’t in my radar back then but I don’t remember seeing ads for it until around 2012. It’s especially glorious in cold temperatures. Dont overspray it. It can be very heavy. For me the only fragrance I put it in the level of is Christian Dior Dune(for women) These are perfect unisex leaning feminine. But glorious, opulent.this performs! Truly envelopes throughout the day, no linear anosmic crap like what these houses are doing today.

Jackathus

leans more towards the feminine side.
would of been better if the chocolate was stronger.
smell 7/10
performance 8/10
projection 8/10

Alvaro97

The moment has come for me to review my signature fragrance. I still remember the first time I tried it. I was shopping with my mom when a sales assistant handed me a test strip with Black Orchid on it and let me tell you I hated it so much! It left me feeling so confused and kinda disgusted to be totally honest...

Now you may be wondering what changed and well... I just simply gave it another try but this time with a decant I bought. There was something so intriguing with this fragrance and I was so confused as to why I hated it so much knowing that I love deep dark fragrances like this one so that's why I decided to give it another chance and it finally clicked. I received the decant and upon first spray I had a totally different reaction to it and it also smelled completely different! I now know that what happened back at the mall was just me being overwhelmed by having smelled so much that my nose simply gave up when first smelling Black Orchid as it is such a strong fragrance. Let me tell you I was obsessed with the aroma and couldn't stop smelling my wrist. The darkest of fragrances, the Dark Queen! You can totally feel the dark chocolate, the florals, the truffle and don't forget about the incense. After having tried hundreds and hundreds of fragrances nothing has come close to this fragrance for me it's just such so unique and honestly with my own definition of niche this could totally fit in which is artistic, uncommon and absolutely not generic.

I don't care about occasions, weather, age, gender... I will wear this fragrance frequently but with moderation always being mindful of others. This fragrance just makes me feel so powerful and confident.

I cannot recommend enough for others to try this masterpiece and PLEASE give it time, give it plenty of chances because at first it may shock you if you're used to more blue or extremely sweet commercial fragrances. Just 2 sprays is enough for me most of the time and it lasts me the whole day while being able to catch whiffs of it from time to time (I almost always end up going noseblind to most fragrances)

vpace91

Something a hot goth would wear. Interesting as hell.

DaGrizzly

Ngl I hate this fragrance on me. It gives me female teacher vibes which would work great on someone like that but not on me at all. I can appreciate the scent for what it is but I would never personally buy it for myself.

asumabz

The opening notes are fruitier than I'd expected. Love the dry down though, with lots of sandalwood and patchouli.

MM888857383

Very nice. Defo unisex but could be leaning slightly masculine, but defo not a feminine fragrance. However if you are looking for feminine, could wear this and layer with something more feminine.

Serpentarius

LADIES. If you are/want to feel powerful, dominant, seductive, this one's for you.

I would absolutely be hypnotized. She is a strong, fierce force of nature though. She knows what she wants. Maleficent would definitely wear this. Dark. Unapologetic.

As a fragrance lover, I just really appreciate the artistry of this one.

lidor

A rich and dark chocolate smell with a lot of uniqueness.

Indispensable for cold weather. Even though it was released in 2006, it is still very nice and lasting.

wondervalley666

First test of a blind buy. I haven’t gone too deep into TF scents.

Upon first spray, I get mostly a sharp sandalwood that reminds me of the notorious Le Labo Santal, with a heavy bitter spiced ginger on top. This phase was a bit underwhelming. I thought it was going to be simple and linear from here but I was wrong. I was surprised not to see ginger in the notes. This scent shares a few notes in common with Versace Crystal Noir EDP, I scent I know well, so I think something about the Black Orchid spices + patchouli + sweet florals is making me think of the ginger in Crystal Noir. The spiced woody opening lasts between 30 min and 1 hr on me before this scent dries down into the best part. A warm spicy musk overall, with a whole bunch of light florals and sweets. Honestly even the drydown smells like a slightly more unisex wintery version of the summery sweet tropical florals of Crystal Noir as well. I’m sure people won’t like this comparison but for me it’s a compliment. I love crystal noir and it’s goth witch in a tropical garden at night vibes. I suppose my chemistry likes to amplify the same notes in both scents. Black orchid also has a slightly tropical vibe yet it works very well in the winter without feeling out of place. Slightly soapy in the drydown, but expensive scented soaps from a fancy hotel. Clean musk, fresh not animalic. This is coming off as more feminine on me, but frankly I doubt anyone would think this is too feminine for men to wear. I can see this being an easy grab.

Performs so much better than other TFs I’ve tried. After 6-8 hrs I think it’s gone, but then it’s like someone turned up the volume on the drydown and I have a whole new scent to enjoy for another 6-8 hrs. Lasts longer on clothing. It’s a great scent to spray your sweater or cardigan with, you’ll be in a scent bubble for days.

I would probably recommend testing before you blind buy. I can see some people being put off by the complexity of this scent, though it becomes more cohesive the more I wear it. This is quality, so if it works for you in terms of your taste and budget, you probably will have a tough time finding anything that smells more expensive and quality for a lower price. It is available pretty cheap from honest liquidators, but counterfeit TFs exist all over nowadays so make sure they are legit.

Update: I bought a large backup bottle of this. It gets really impressive in the dry down and makes me smell amazing with an addictive quality. Lasts forever. I feel like this is my ideal type of fall/winter scent. Black leather pants, a tan turtleneck sweater, sleek black boots, and this scent make me feel so well put together. Witchy seductress in designer clothing sipping craft cocktails at a cool NYC bar vibe. I didn’t expect to love this as much as I did. I smell a lot of scents. This blew me away.

I recommend giving it a proper full wear before you judge. This is a body chemistry enhancing scent for sure and doesn’t smell as special on paper or just in the wrist.

If you’re patchouli-phobic, it is very light and minimal here, I almost never notice it at all and it’s gone in an hour or two completely.

Nova789K!

Masterpiece. Period. Love it. Period.

Rudolf Rolfordo I

I pull this frag on while cruising the mountain roads, at full moon on warm summer nights, listening to „Mask Off” by Future. The space, clear nights, blissful loneliness and that 2 a.m. fresh air mixed with wisps of Black Orchid.

Dark purple tranquility.

unrealisanannagra

Perfection. A true Unisex although I can see why people would think this is more male—but on a woman like myself, this is heavenly. She’s mysterious, she’s got secrets, many lovers, a confidence that can’t be shaken. She has a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to her persona. I get lots of patchouli, vanilla, amber, chocolate, spice, with some of those jasmine & orchid notes crafting this complex beautiful work. When it starts to disappear, I find it smells it’s best. Almost like a sad departure and a terrible love story left to reminisce about the scandalous night you just had. Men love this, Women love this. However, there is a caveat to rocking this fragrance, not everyone can—& that’s because not everyone can be great, not everyone has the “it” factor. Fragrances tell a story and TF knows that very much. That being said, not a blind buy, risky gift. This is an “if you know you know” type of scent. This could be forever mainstream and still be one of the tops because it’s so damn personal. I prefer this over YSL’s Black Opium where all I get is that mandarin note but on this, it’s seamless & done right. Usually I don’t like to limit winter / fall scents in their season because in Mediterranean climates, this can work. A top 10 for sure.

davidramos555

WOW!!!!!! MASTERPEICE, MASTERPEICE, MASTERPEICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing more needs to be said. I absolutely as man love wearing this, it's totally unisex. Smells much darker and dirtier off my skin than it does my girlfriend; it's a bit lighter and airy on her while keeping the same scent profile / DNA. So stunning. So so so stunning!!!!!

TRUE ELEGANCE IN A BOTTLE

Kwezz89

A very unique and very dark earthy chocolate and spicy floral fragrance. I do love it. It so unique and I doubt you’ll smell many other wearing it but it is a great fragrance. I wear it sometimes but not often. It’s an intimate fragrance not a huge projector but does last a long time on clothing and skin. It’s manly and feminine at the same time. Pretty unisex I think. I do love wearing floral men fragrances.( I wear Toyboy once in awhile) but this is pretty dark so it’s defiantly a date night type thing for me. But if you like it wear it!

HotdogLegend

Such an interesting, floral yet manly scent. I love this. If you're in touch with your feminine side and can pull off a super floral, gold scent in the most many way - this is for you!

xillage

I get the vibes of BR 540 + Oud for greatness. More of sour overtones, with some dense and sweet undertones mixed with earthiness and chocolate.

AdelaH

If you don't love it at the first sniff, find it confusing but still intriguing, let it rest, you might get addicted to sniffing it and loving it. That's how it became my signature scent.

My first sniff took me to a movie Chocolat (w/J. Binoche and J. Depp) - dark sensual chocolate, from the juicy cocoa beans of Amazonia forest, with some spicy edge and heaviness. Strong personality fragrance for sure. As the non-conform, mysterious and very feminine Vianne in the movie.

After couple of minutes, the smoothness, oh the smoothness combined with sweet notes of vanilla and sandal wood. After ca 2 hours, it smells on me like a bag of the forbidden candied fruit covered in a chocolate powder that everyone secretly eats in church on Sunday mess, with the echo of incense smell. And after another hour, I smell the jasmine and white musk - clean, slightly sweet.

I believe that especially with this complex perfume it depends a lot on your natural odour, not just your preference. I see how it might be almost goth or dominatrix scent for some. On me, with my naturally sweet odour, it smells powdery, sweet and comforting.

N.B. I like to use the Black Orchid body spray over my clothes (it smells more as the dry down of the perfume) and spritz just 2 max 3 sprays of the perfume on me skin.

MeditativeRose

Ooh, this is my bedtime pillow scent and there's nothing more deeply comforting to me than this! Goes perfectly well with a black leather jacket too... In a moment of inspiration, I layered this with Kayali Lovefest Burning Cherry 48 and it was heaven on Earth to me! Together they morphed into something dark, ethereal and boozy. Stellar performance on clothes.

Makeup Discourse

Bought a 10 ml travel spray to see if it is Edward Cullen, but this is Damon Salvatore. I cannot pull this off. This is too dark and mysterious for me, can't get a single floral note, more on the masculine side.

KaddShaddai

Good longevity, expected a bigger projection

devaluxe

Negrin is my favorite perfumer and this is no exception. I first smelled Black Orchid on my dentist as she was working on my teeth. Given the polarity of opinions, I’m surprised this was a fragrance she chose to wear but it was the only fragrance she wore. I finally after a couple of years asked her what she wore and she told me it was this. I absolutely adore this smell, but I’m a huge fan of “dirty” scents and this makes me feel like a goth queen. Definitely an evening scent for cold weather. I cannot imagine wearing this during our southern summer heat as it would be absolutely oppressive. Lasts forever and easy to overdo so go easy. Overall if you like a woody, dirty plum scent, this might be your jam.

demi1504

This fragrance is unmistakable and exudes a lot of personality, which is somewhat ironic given its widespread trendiness at one point—where it seemed everyone deemed it 'cool.' Personally, I find it a bit overrated, but intriguingly, it tends to smell better on men.

Forda

The floral part of this perfume suits me. I don't like the sound of the "truffle" part. Because the velvety saltiness of patchouli is mixed with the smell of old, unwashed grocery bags that have been lying in the barn for quite some time. You have to wait about an hour for the reminder about menstrual rags, which were discovered by counselors at a summer camp after a visit to the bathhouse by some unkempt and stupid girl, to go away. There is something deliberately gynecological about this accord, as if this perfume was created specifically for trans women who want to go all the way in their desire for what was never theirs by birth.

Sanguine_scenttrails

Black Orchid smells like sipping thick, inky amaro under the aroma of Turkish coffee brewing somewhere in the shadows of a bar full of ruin and Bauhaus whispers, bruised black tie gowns, and the spectres all of its cigarette ghosts.

Bittersweet, brooding, warm, abstract, comforting, and seductive. Both vintage, modern, and completely out of time all at once; Tom Ford’s Black Orchid is a torch song not for the faint of heart. Most ideal for a formidable vampire turned night-shift docent at the MoMA. 10/10

Sarra816

On me - it is harsh, dark, and abstract. It made me smell like the grim reaper - fresh dirt and rain mixed with coffee grounds and velvet. It did not suit me
On my mother, it was intense, mysterious, and alluring. It smelled like dark chocolate, incense, full and complex. This scent is not an easy one and has layers to understand.
It is intricate and very unique, not everyone will love it. testing is cruel with this one as the skin makes this fragrance change from person to person.

shuuush777

What I smell: Mexican dark chocolate, spices, leather, patchouli, incense, vetiver, tiniest bit of white floral

Association: mysterious stranger you meet on a winter holiday, fall in love instantly, but never see again

Overall opinion: sultry, deep, and mysterious, leads you on a fragrant journey through all of its notes, rich and hauntingly beautiful. Not the best longevity (as with most TF edp) but the velvety unique scent is worth the price. Melts into your natural scent and beautifully envelopes you, one of my favourites.

hihero

Very unique and stands alone. Haven't heard of anything that comes in comparison, however that said it's love it or hate it.
My partner says it's too full on "too much going on". I personally like that but keep in mind I'm into fragrances and she is not. With that in mind I think you'll get mixed reviews with this one as it's not a people pleaser. Very dark and mysterious. If at the minimum you're not wearing a jacket/blazer with this on a night out I think it's out of place with most casual even smart casual attire. If you have a confident masculine personality in the way you carry yourself but hold yourself up as a gentleman it will go a long way to compliment your entire look but it will do the exact opposite and wear you if you're not presenting yourself put together. I love this fragrance and enjoy my suits smelling like it. Definitely an evening scent for a colder night.

mrcxry

I'm surprised to see that few liken this to Noir de Noir also by Tom Ford because to me they are not very far. The DNA is there: a dark rose made for daring wearers, that transcends genders and smells opulent and rich. Obviously, this does not have oud and is way less rose-forward, but there is certainly some rose oil involved in the creation of the Orchid accord. The issue with both is that they are not necessarily wearable anywhere and everywhere, so you have to be careful about the occasion, but I love to borrow my dad's bottle from times to times. This is made for a dressier/formal occasion just like Noir de Noir.

Gratefruit7

This is the opposite of MUGLER ANGEL (which i love). I would name this perfume "Devil" Smells like dark magic, an evil witches house in the middle of a dark forest.
Personally...this is the worst perfume i ever smelled...but i can see why is it expensive and popular. Smells quality and well put together. Interesting, deep, misterious. Definitely not my personality, its too dark/goth for me.
Definitely not a safe blind buy. And expect some people DISLIKE how you smell when you wear it.

Tamoor27

if i'm honest, its veryyy special and not a safe blind buy. very dark mysterious fragrance but unique.

IVamp

One of my favorite scents ever - I will never get enough of this! It's rich, velvety smooth, elegant, and seductive. Definitely suitable for nighttime and colder weather, shouldn't be oversprayed. In terms of aesthetics, music, movies, books, etc. tastes, I am very much into the gothic/dark fantasy/vintage department, so I love wearing this with my many long black dresses and dark red lipstick. Of course, I can totally see how it may not be for everyone, as it really has a strong dark vibe. It is a complex fragrance, it may not work well with some people's body chemistry, not a safe blind buy for sure. It stays on my skin until I wash it off, on hair and clothes it can linger for days. The sillage is also quite overpowering, so 2-3 sprays are more than enough.

Saul_Goodmens))

If you could smell movies I feel like this is what the film "The Witch" would smell like. This scent is pretty horrid (not necessarily in a good or bad way) but really interesting.

Not sure if I like it or not but I can definitely appreciate it

Dutchlikesclassics

According to a lot of former reviews, this scent is supposed to knock you off your feet as far as complexity and sillage are concerned.

Maybe there are certain batches that are watered down, and I, unfortunately, bought one?

Maybe it needs macarating?

To me it’s just a rather nice oriental scent. At first it smells sweet with hints of overripe fruit. At dry down there’s some vanilla left.

I am not an expert, but I do know, this is overpriced.

I’ll stick to Shalimar.

Oceaniics

I love black orchid but my bottle (2022 batch) has no performance and the smell was not as complex as my decant or testers in the store. I agree with Anne Chafer that they may have reformulated black orchid because there's no reason it should be so weak.

Nova789K!

A strange and beautiful concoction. And it works beautifully. Unisex and sexy. Masterpiece by the House of Tom Ford. Love it. One of the true mysteries that intrigued my senses in my life’s journey in fragrance and the world around me.

chancesdaydream

i LOVE this perfume. i need to buy a full size cuz its my go to winter scent. it lasts forever and is super strong which i love and it has the nicest spiciness and light floral notes. fav tester in my collection

Anne Chafer

I used to love this in 2019, but I bought a bottle at last this year (2023) and I wonder if they reformulated because it doesn't smell the way it did? It might be my nostalgia tinting my memories of it, but somehow I remember this scent so much because at first it was this cut-grass smell that I hated, but as it settled it turned into this scent of incense and candle wax smell you get when you enter a cathedral, very evocative. But now it feels like a very linear overly-sweet chocolate-spicy smell. I still enjoy it, but it doesn't have the magic it had when I discovered it, and I'm thinking maybe that's why?

Netarpearl

It's giving "goth girl gardener."

Parisaeu

A very good one. Sophisticated, sensual and really night-seduce-have eyes on me kind of vibe. This is definitely for someone that wants eyes on them and wants to be seen and get what they want. I fully recommend if that's the vibe you are going for.

StuddedLeather

This might be one of my favorite smells on this earth. Seriously addicting. Spicy, floral, smoky, rich, and dark. Oh, my heart.

I'm a man and I will totally wear this. Though I may have to gift it to my girlfriend so I can sniff it on her all day.
Edit: She doesn't like it. Fine, I'll wear it and smell myself.

Aurela Kullau

Tom Ford disappointed me with this one . This is just too much so many notes . I find it too heavy, for me this is for men not feminine at all.

Myrtillajus

Giving a black orchid as a gift evokes the charm of the unattainable, of the mystery, of the impossible.
Black Orchid is glamorous, damn glamorous.
Sensual, mysterious, intriguing, very sexy.
Like many people does, I also define it as a dark fragrance.
It gives that irresistible aura of mystery to the wearer, and in my opinion it reaches its best on a woman.
I would gladly wear it, I would feel very, very sensual.
“Silhouette Fantastique” painted by Victor Hugo (who, yes, also had this splendid talent)..

Madzmadz

Brought this cos of that guy from Stranger Things. Lest favourite fragrance I have ever owned. Ended up giving it away. Smell is way too overwhelming and gave me headaches everytime I would wear it and I only sprayed it on once. Would like this fragrance a lot more if the smell wasn't so overwhelming. Smell also feels more mature, like for someone in their 40's. Definitely a very unique cologne.

acidgypsycat

There's something sickening and overpowering about this scent. I have a love/hate relationship with it. It smells so good for the first couple of hours but after that you want to take a shower (which doesn't help, by the way, it stays with you for a long time). Not entirely sure which occasion to wear it to either, the smell is hard to describe and will people like it or hate it is a huge gamble.

NoseyWitch

A beautiful friend gifted me a bottle of Black Orchid. This is a complex scent. It's not a safe blind buy, I just got lucky it worked with my body chemistry. I only spray twice (it's strong). It opens with dark, midnight florals and dries down to a beautiful almost black cherry coke resin on my skin. It smells like a slumbering pansexual vampire under the earth of a flower garden after a night of debauchery in an opium den and the sun has just set on a new night. It's a scary bitch smell. Binary in nature. Definitely a winter scent.

Azizialmajid

The truffle, earthy scent is dominant in the initial spray, and hint of vanilla in the dry down. Projection is not so good on me, longevity is also not so potent. Difficult to find the right moment for this frag, but time will tell.

Happy to have the 50ml bottle. 🌹

fernlover

Wow. I never smelt something like that before. It's a very interesting perfume, but not for everyone. No, not just for "not everyone" but a small group of people who can appreciate it. I wouldn't count myself as being one of those people. Very strong, earthy, woody, deep fragrance. Very gothic, as i expected. After some time I can smell citruses, flowers. It doesn’t remind me of a cemetery, though, as i thought it would. I’d say it has a scent that you’d expect to smell in an old castle. Sunlight goes inside rarely, and this smell of mustiness follows you everywhere as you walk in the dark hallways. 10 minutes passed and i can smell vetiver, or smoke. Patchouli stays noticeable throughout the whole time on skin. Silage and longevity is crazy. I just got out of shower and i still smell it on my skin, without the top notes, though, which makes it bearable.

Smeraldina77

I don't know.... I don't think it is bad, but I don't really like it.... I don't find it repulsive, indolic, rotting smelling like some people say, but there is something I am not very attracted to. To me it smells strong of course, it is kind of dry, a tiny bit sour, it is very longlasting and projecting, but it is not something I would like to wear. I find it has also some kind of a vintage feeling. I have Velvet Orchid, which I like, and I have a sample of the Parfum flanker which I have yet to try. It is definitely unique though, and I can see why many people like it. It also has so many notes and I am sure a lot of people can smell much more complexity in it than I can.

cecfor

Topnotes I do not like at all. They are cold and austere. But the base folks, it is worth waiting for and endure the trying beginning. Base is sweet, warm and cozy, and lasts qiute a while. Totally love the base but I give it a like in total because of the trying start.

palenovad

Very interesting. Makes me sick to my stomach to think about it, but I can see how someone could own it. I think it’s the truffle with dark tarry sweetness that upsets me.

Ladylannae

I feel like there is a time and a place for this fragrance and I have yet to find it in my story. Objectively I find it interesting - just not my cup of tea. But someone out there is smelling divine in it and I'm all for it. I'd love to come across someone who can champion a fragrance of this magnitude.

soldierofgod

ngl this one had me hooked from the startttt, I bought this as a blind buy after reading a very sketchy review on here, and I'm overjoyed by how good it is. Definitely a stronger scent, but I love the sweetness and freshness this perfume still has. Feels like something a femme fatale type woman would wear, in a semi-arrogant way - I lowkey love that.

ribs666

The more I wear it, the more I like it. It is kind of like wearing sexy dirt, like rolling around in gorgeous, slightly spicy, nutrient-rich soil.

makeupmaven1967

Tried a sample of this a long time ago. At least, I think it was this and not one of the other iterations of Black Orchid. I had such mixed feelings about it. While I liked it well enough, it always felt to me as though two different aspects of it were at war with one another. It had such an awful lot going on that I think it just confused my brain. I liked it but was baffled by it. .

Hennessy909

Ok, I've tried every Tom Ford I could get my hands on. This is the one and only, and the best one.

Normal Black Orchid (EDP, this one) is complicated and beautiful, while EDT and parfum versions are a little bit different and less complicated. It's a 50-50 kind of unisex, and while it says "for women," men can easily use it.
The rest of them, Velvet Orchid is super feminine. not for me. Grey Vetiver and Noir Extreme are both lack performance compared to Black Orchid.
And the rest of them, the expensive ones including tobacco vanilla, oud stuff, private blends, etc. They're reformulated in a bad way, or they're overpriced and overhyped for what they are or they lack performance.

So ... If you want a Tom Ford get this one :))

Anonomouse

I like the way it smells in the bottle but it smells a lot different when it dries down. It's almost masculine. It's earthy with a strange aftershave thing in the background. I imagine this is what grumpy from snow white would smell like. I wanted to love this but I couldn't get past the dry down on me. There's a lotttttt going on here. I can appreciate the longevity and uniqueness though.

SofiGr

Just absolutely beautiful. No description does it justice.

Oceaniics: I agree that the performance is much weaker now. Before I only needed one spray, now three sprays barely lasts me a whole day.

princeprince

feels like peering into a dark empty void. u fall into its yawning depths and find, once you have sunk to the bottom, immense warmth and comfort. vampiric.. sensual.. and alluring .
the void stares backs, so to speak.

randomwanderings

initial spray is heady and heavy jasmine and seductive white florals, the scent of honey ripe fruit and something you cant figure out. as it settles, you get a mild patchouli, earthy truffle but not *dirty*, and spicy Mexican chocolate, amber, vanilla, and rich incense. an impossible to describe but intoxicating fragrance. very autumn and winter of a scent and pretty gothic/mature. 10/10

Oceaniics

has anyone had problems with smell and performance on 2022 batches? I have a 100ml from late 2022 and it barely performs. I sampled black orchid a few months ago and my decant smelled way more complex, projected farther, and had stronger sillage. I bought it from perfumeonline.ca along with some other fragrances that were fine so I doubt it is fake.

Beanie Anne

I have a love hate relationship with this one. I have to resist the urge to scrub it off for the first hour. After that it smells amazing.

pureangelgirl

INSANE, ABSOLUTELY INSANE. lovely, dark, vampy. this is for classy women and men who wear coats. very comforting to spray on before you go to bed as well. perfectly unisex!! definitely shines in colder weather, but I could see it on a summer/spring night as well, maybe in a restaurant or club.

Radknight

This is another amazing fragrance by Tom Ford which blurs the realm between Designer and Niche. First off, there is no way this is just a female scent. Extremely unisex, especially at the opening. This is very dark, floral, and deep. More complex than my novice nose can fathom, so I don't try. The opening is like '"...wow...". Very strong and at first disconcerting. It really settles as it dries down into the spicy, floral, earthy. 9.5/10

Tom Ford Black Orchid: A Sensual Masterpiece with Echoes of Mancera Red Tobacco

Tom Ford Black Orchid is a fragrance that transcends the ordinary, weaving a tale of opulence and sensuality that captivates the senses. From the first encounter, Black Orchid unfolds as a lush and mysterious blend, an olfactory journey that mirrors the complexity and allure of a rare black orchid.

The opening notes are an invitation to the exotic, with rich floral accords intertwining seamlessly. Black truffle and ylang-ylang create an intoxicating dance that immediately sets the tone for an unforgettable experience. As the fragrance evolves, notes of dark chocolate and incense add a touch of decadence, elevating Black Orchid to a level of sophistication that is quintessentially Tom Ford.

What's particularly intriguing is the subtle resemblance to the rich and warm aroma of Mancera Red Tobacco. While Black Orchid has its unique character, the shared notes of dark chocolate and incense create a familiar thread that fans of Red Tobacco might find intriguing. It's as if the two fragrances share a secret language, a connection that adds depth to the olfactory narrative.

Black Orchid's longevity is exceptional, and its sillage leaves a memorable trail without being overwhelming. The bottle itself is a work of art, a sleek and dark vessel that perfectly encapsulates the essence within.

In the grand tapestry of fragrances, Tom Ford Black Orchid stands as a sensual masterpiece, and its subtle resonance with the alluring notes of Mancera Red Tobacco only enhances its allure. Whether you're drawn to the exotic mystery of orchids or enticed by the warm embrace of tobacco, Black Orchid promises an experience that is as timeless as it is captivating.

Kinnyski

The first 40 minutes were hell! I smelled like i was eating tekka maki with soy sauce while sniffing an orchid. There was this seaweed wrapper smell that was ick which morphed into sickening ylang ylang with over ripe fruit. After 40 minutes this heavenly sexy Mexican dark chocolate/ smokey vanilla with spices emerged and stayed with me for about 10+ hours. My advice is to spray this at least about 30 minutes before you step out the door. The 40 minutes of terror is worth it for the 10 hours minimum of heaven. Not a safe blind buy though!

Lauren_Trouble

Complex masterpiece of a fragrance! Dark, earthy, sweet, spicy, floral, woody & musky all at once! Very distinct, great longevity & projection.

Jbreezo823

I don’t pop molly I rock Tom ford

aenflex

It’s a dense purple fog. Thick and humid and heavy. It is not purely dark to me, it’s more vaporous and opaque than it is black. It’s summer twilight in a hothouse: the combined scents of blooms and fruit and a damp, fertile soil swirling and suspended in a heavy mist.
It’s a rich, autonomous mist, snaking its tendrils around your feet, your arms, your neck. Ripe, round, full. It’s lush, melancholy, gothic, quiet, thoughtful.

That said, reading reviews, I was expecting something darker, deeper, barbarous,
almost painful. It’s none of that. There’s a sweet floral/jammy quality that keeps it firmly in the mass appeal camp. It’s soft and flexible.

The OG Cafe Rose from the Jardin Noir collection is a cousin. Hell, Ombré Leather is a cousin. They all carry that jammy/berry DNA that’s so frequently woven into Tom Ford creations. Ripe berry and creamy accords make my mouth water, and I find them all over the place with Tom Ford, even when they’re not supposed to be there.

Longevity is good, I don’t get much projection beyond maybe 12 inches, not much sillage.

Deekerr16

Ard Al Zaafaran Oud 24 Hours makes this obsolete. Save your money for something else that can't be cloned.

irmakugur22

This is a very romantic, dark, mysterious and classy scent. If you want to be noticed, you can count on Black Orchid. However, be careful as not everyone might like how extraordinary and strong this perfume is. If dark royal purple velvet had a scent, it'd be this one!

sylvividi

I don't know how to feel about this, I flip flop between "amazing!! complex!! dark and sexy!!" and "what is this weird intense smell?"

Black Orchid is richly complex; it's not a boring perfume by any means. But it's a challenging scent to wear. It starts off as a thick non-white floral, a very heavy scent that's a bit perfumey. It's unpleasantly cutting like raw sap from a freshly broken stem. And it has the potential to be beautifully complex if your skin plays well with it.

The sillage and projection are extremely strong. One spray is more than enough, too much even depending on where. Breathing it in too closely or deeply leads to a headache and the desire to scrub it all off.

Overall, I don't wear Black Orchid because it's too risky for me; I never know whether I'll find it beautifully sexy or an absolute scrubber. But I respect how well it's executed and hope to see it used by other people more.

I once worked at a morgue and I swear my clothes smelled exactly like this perfume after a work day
But I have to admit: Its interesting and complex but since I have this connection in my head now I cant really wear it

Merhabalar ;
Sanırım şekerli kokular ararken denk geldim. Daha çok mugler angel parfümünü anımsatıyor. Kalıcılık muazzam. Yaz için uygun değil. Kış parfümü. Çok tatlı tabi joop gibi baymıyor.

I wear this on Halloween every year. 🎃

Bought a FB testing it now after reading many reviews about it here. So far it's living up to the hype👍 the scent is just gorgeous and very luxurious as it starts to develop. I will write an update when i smell it on the dry down.

Damascones coverd salicylates, dark fruity patchouli Smokey lactonic perfume, with deep amberwoody oudy muskiness and mysterious powerful and sensual base, I think its suits better for women

Chanel de Lanvin

It's listed for women, ok if we don't stop any further, and the god of marketing is right, so if we listen to your reasoning, women who very easily wear masculine gendered perfumes are also stupid, it's is that ?
And as you say, if it’s a feminine perfume, why did you try it?
I am a man and I wear this perfume easily, perfumes are not gendered,
except in marketing and in nerdy minds!

If I had to match perfumes to the zodiac, this one is the perfume of a Taurus - it’s earthy, strong, aggressive and stubborn, yet beautiful and long lasting. I wore this for a long time and it will always remind me of winters in Denmark. It’s suitable for cold weather, dark days and black clothes. One of my all time favourite perfumes.
