Chance Eau Vive by Chanel is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Chance Eau Vive was launched in 2015. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Polge. Top notes are Blood Orange, Grapefruit and Citruses; middle notes are Jasmine and White Musk; base notes are Vetiver, Cedar and Iris.

Chanel launches the new fragrance CHANCE EAU VIVE which belongs to the Chanel Chance collection and arrives on the market on June 12th 2015. The collection was started with fragrance Chanel Chance in 2003, followed by versions Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche in 2007 and Chanel Chance Eau Tendre in 2010. The collection is refreshed with new flacon form at the beginning of this year, so the fragrances can also be purchased as 35 ml now.

CHANEL CHANCE EAU VIVE is signed by perfumer Olivier Polge who blends sparkling notes of grapefruit with juicy, explosive red orange, providing citrus splash to elegant jasmine and white musk. Base notes of the composition mix vetiver, cedar and iris, leaving a fresh, gentle, elegant and subtle trail.

Fragrance repeats the same flacon form as previous editions of the collection and will be available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

How can you hate this? It smells so good. It's a clean, crisp woodsy scent with a little citrus and vetiver. It's a little muskier than the other Chance flankers imo.

The Scentimentalist

If the combo of vetiver and musk tends to smell a bit like BO or urine on you, be aware Chance eau Vive could go in that direction in the drydown. The opening and middle phases are fantastic, really gorgeous citrus a la Chanel.

kristina.valeva

I love it!

Mims92

This perfume smells very refreshing like your fresh out of the shower type of scent. Opens very citrus but the dry down is very nice fresh and woody I just wish it lasted longer

kelpcaviar

This perfume literally smells like a brisk soap version of orange juice (SunnyD) and maybe orange Fruit Loops cereal. Despite this resemblance, it's not too sweet or intrusive. The longevity is excellent. It has become one of my favorites. It's up there with Joy, and Sicily, in my opinion, yet more minimalist. I feel like the Chance collection is masterfully similar to many Calvin Klein fragrances. It was definitely a modern, unisex, update to Chanel. It will get a broader spectrum of a customer audience. That was most likely their idea.

Jasmine, white musk and iris bomb on me, as citruses never shine on my skin. Leans to Chance EDP on my skin.

LOVE LOVE this fragrance! I usually wear the Eau Tendre, but recently taken a liking to this one, it’s so fresh and citrusy. I wear this during the day or even out at night, it does well in the summer and winter months also. The only thing is, I wish it stayed a little bit longer, I get about 4 hrs on my skin, a bit longer on my clothes, but it’s very light. Hopefully they’ll make it in EDP, like they did with Eau Tendre! I purchased the 150 ML because I use it so much!! :)

Erinm13

I finally recently picked up this flanker after wanting it for quite some time - I am a huge fan of Chance Eau Fraîche and wanted to try this one out. I have been wearing it the past couple of weeks and am absolutely loving it. On my* skin it starts off bright and citrusy and by the end of the day it is a deep musk (I am a big musk fan). On my clothes it dries to a mildly sweet floral that seems to last all day.

Even after I don't notice it on myself anymore I will still receive compliments on how nice i smell (a gal at a sandwich shop recently shouted at me about how good i smelled)

I know most people are most into the original Chance and the Eau Tendré flanker but tbh I have still never tried them because i love fresh scents, so unfortunately I can’t compare this to either of those.

Rose112

As a massive fan of the entire Chance line, this one also does not disappoint, but also isn’t quite as good as the others in my opinion.

Eau Vive opens with the signature sparks of citrusy notes, and later dries down into woodier, jasmine scent. Of all the Chance’s, this one feels the least distinct to me and more along of the lines of just a nice perfume. While I do still own and love this one, it doesn’t strike me like the original Chance or my absolute favorite, Eau Tendre (EDP or EDT).

This fragrance has excellent staying power of around 6-8 hours for me, and a moderate sillage as well. It is easily the longest lasting of the Chance line on my skin, which is always a plus. For wear, I typically do 4-6 sprays on my wrists, chest and back of the neck.

Another positive for this one: I have a friend who absolutely loves this, and is quick to borrow it when she’s over lol.

yzmo91

I consider this a likeable perfume. Not too serious, but still put together. You can't really go wrong or offend anyone with Eau Vive. Is it memorable? Maybe not so much. But you will smell neutrally nice. Also, I find that it has this hint of Chanel sparkly-ness that no 5 has.

julie3858

I purchased it three years ago and I'm nearing the end of the bottle. Initially, I liked it a lot. Now i just kind of like it. this perfume emanates a refreshing aura that's suitable for professional settings. It's highly likely to appeal to a wide audience.
Regrettably, its longevity leaves much to be desired. It lacks projection and sillage entirely. Even my more affordable options (such as JLo Glow) outlast this fragrance when applied to clothing or skin.
I intend to use up the remainder of the bottle; however, I don't plan on repurchasing it. Given its price point, one can certainly discover something comparable yet with a longer-lasting presence.

FutureKiwi

There is a difference between what I wish this fragrance was - and what it really is on me. So, I wish this was refreshing like a cool champagne served in the Summer. Sparkly, vibrant and uplifting. That's what I expected.
It somehow falls into that category but my skin - as always - ruins it all. I wish it was cleaner, more juicy than musky. It's just my opinion, bear in mind that my hormones are freaking out - which affects my fragrance experiences.

from a BF's perspective:

I'm shopping around these days for a floral fragrance for my GF, so yesterday I took some time to try over 15 different ones at the local mall, at Sephora and Shoppers. The sales lady gave me to try mainly from the Givenchy and Chanel brands. I have my favorites for both brands, and they're really close! I still have to make up my mind as of which one to pick.

But if were to choose from the Chanel lineup, I'd say without a doubt, that Eau Vive is the best in the lineup. The Citrus note in the opening is what it makes it different from the rest, and more versatile from use in the summer. The dry down is very feminine, mellow, inviting..it makes me think for spending hours cuddling with her! When I smell a fragrance I close my eyes, inhale deeply, and just focus on the images I see in my mind..if it takes me places with her, that's the one I pick! This Eau Vive does that.

Heathermarie8617

I added Eau Vive to my Chance collection to complete it. My favorites are the original EDT and Eau Tendre but I'm having a hard time deciding if I actually like Eau Vive or not. This is a very pretty citrus floral musk scent that reminds me of something I smelt many, many years ago but I just cannot place what it is. This opens as a very bright citrus and dries down to white flowers, which is something I generally like...but there is something in it that I don't like but don't exactly hate? I'll give it more time to decide as sometimes that's how it is with fragrance; I can't decide now, but later on can make a decision. Hmmmm....

Cheers!

Edit: After a full day of wear I can confidently put this in my "like" pile. It's nice and my husband says that it smells "clean" and he likes it. Always a plus when he approves. :)

christenryan

An energizing and uplifting citrus - particularly for winter. On my skin, I find the orange and grapefruit notes hold up to the colder temps. Wakes me up in the morning!

dejjaavvuu

I don't understand the negative reviews for this one. This is my most complimented perfume EVER, and that's saying alot because I have a big collection!

barry1052

It’s summer lol time to pull this beauty off ❤️
It shines in summer / spring !!! Very underrated from the chance series

LauraVTerrazas

I freaking love this scent during the opening.
After about 15 minutes it finally dries down and just becomes ok. 😫

My favorite Chance is the original eau de toilette.

If the opening of this one, which I assume is the orange, would last throughout the dry down then it would be a total winner in my book.

Going to keep playing with it too see if I will eventually declutter 🙈

blackvenom69

I read about the notes and it had everything I liked, was really looking forward to the citrus opening and iris & vetiver dry down. But I can smell nothing but musk from start to finish! Furthermore the projection and longevity are poor, but at this point I cant decide if that’s a good or bad thing when all I can smell is musk on my skin.

DocRach2025

The perfect clean citrus fragrance that doesn’t smell like a cleaning product. I’m obsessed. It’s fresh but still warm and a little sweet. Definitely feminine without being sickly sweet. This is definitely signature scent worthy. I live in a tropical climate so I will wear this year round - otherwise I’d say it’s a spring/summer scent.

AuthenticAF

I recently got this for my daughter and we both sampled all of the chance clankers and og and liked this the best. Eau fraiche was good too but i dont think it would last. I did not care for eau tendre

Dexter G

A lovely fresh scent which naturally suits spring and summer wear. Always attracts comments and noticeably lasts well into the afternoon after a morning spritz! I do however think that this scent suits all year round wear...it possesses a warmth and a depth which develops over the day. This scent has many layers and many gifts to offer! Quite possibly my favourite 'Chance' scent.

booselwawa

Fresh, clean, and light. I like to layer this with other perfumes.

Sagittarius_energyyy

I used to love this perfume. Smelled citrusy, with floral scents which wasn’t overwhelming. It was the perfect everyday perfume, which I occasionally got compliments from strangers. HOWEVER, my skin decided not to cooperate with this scent any more since I purchased the second bottle. Ppl said something smells really weird and after they smell my wrist (which is where I spray my perfumes), they said this was it!!! And I could smell the awfulness later on too. It started to smell like cat urine, as if cat pee-d on me and I tried to cover it using a floral scented perfume. It smells like cat pee and flower mixed together. I do not buy or use this perfume anymore since then…

AlisaP

Мне очень нравится этот аромат. Он сладкий, приятный. Самое то для летних и весенних прогулок!

expialidocious

An all-year-round, beautiful smell. It refreshes in the summer and gives beautiful optimistic vibes in the winter. The opening is zesty and the dry down is unexpectedly beautiful and makes all the difference. Very long lasting. I wonder why it is not loved by more. Maybe the trend towards syrupy fragrances has kept it behind. The Chanel dna is definitely there but with a more carefree and ethereal twist

eau de dosa

I have owned Tendre, I have Fraiche and Vive. Vive is my favorite so far. I’m surprised at the dislikes for this lol

barwench

A friend said she's been obsessed with this since her teenage years so I tried it. It's citrusy and pleasant. Just not for me as I do not like citrusy scents.

Dorothy812

Love the opening, pure zest and citrus, but it only lasts about 20 minutes before a rotting, musky note overtakes it on my skin completely and starts stinking. Try before you buy kind of thing.

Ghost62621

I personally like it, My chemistry picks up the Citrus, Jasmine and powder so like a sparkling clean scent. The scent lasts a long time (5-6 hours) on me but everyone is different.

Chui_yen

Opening was alright, akin to an orange bomb. Dried down to a nasty smelling musk on me, didn't suit my chemistry at all.

Baroqu3

Such a classic! Best from the Chance range! So sparkling and luminous! Young and vibrant! Chanel can be quite mature smelling mostly!
I always want to have this perfume in my collection!
Fruity floral edt done right!
Smooth, fresh, light, sweet (not tart, sharp and astringent like most citruses) balanced not too fruity not too floral.
There’s no powdery smells here, (Eau Tendre is the powdery one) just a beautiful crisp, fresh and delightful fragrance.
Perfect for any occasion as it couldn’t possibly offend anyone!
Effortlessly elegant, the Chanel dna is definitely present and this is well blended and beautiful!

I’m so glad that this is sweet and youthful! Probably the sweetest Chanel too, the same type of sweetness as Beige so not syrupy but sweet enough.
My go to perfume for all occasions! This is that girl, yes, that girl that always looks polished and beautiful everyone loves her.

candyxoxo589

Hands down the best Chanel scent, in my opinion. Not too old lady like.

This has a very citrusy, floral powder scent.

The best way I can describe this is perfect for spring and summer and for sure a daytime scent. I find that it doesn't really last on me, maximum two hours.
I feel like it's somewhat light, so if you're looking for a scent that isn't too overwhelming, this is your scent to go.

MargotHarow

This is the only Chance version that I would ever buy. It is the only one with any personality, complexity and any lasting power. Chance Tendre and original Chance were a joke performance wise. 2 or 3 sprays directly on the wrist were faint all day and disappeared completely in 4 hours. Chance Vive is a skinscent by hour 4 but still there by hour 6.

Chanel changed the Chance and No. 5 lines around 2015 with a lot of synthetic based ingredients and the lasting power became a joke.

Chance eau Vive has a strong grapefruit smell, the Chanel complex and powdery DNA, and is not as linear as the other Chance versions which make them incredibly boring to me.

natasha calli

Another flanker of the the perfume chanel chance line. A good scent but this pales in comparison with chancel eau tendre. It is a good scent. Its found in the middle of all the flankers its not bad but its not really the best either. A good scent. Fresh and citrusy, its a little different from tendre but it has the base characteristic of the chance perfume. A good scent for those starters and testers. To be honest from all the perfumes of chance chance I used I actually forgot that I was even wearing it. The staying power is mediore at best; good for 3-4 hours just like the others and compared to its siblings, it does not give an impact I want. Its like the middle child. You forget about them because there are too many and this is too ordinary to even remember after the end of the day. Thus, although I love chancel chance, this flanker is just a dime a dozen from the other perfumes to me. Too light to be honest.

canabena

This is a stunning scent ! Girly yet sexy and fun. Amazingly sweet but with a citrus twist that smells expensive. This is the perfect scent for a night on the town, club, party event. One of my all time favourites received as a gift and had to reup. I hate how expensive it is but boy is it worth it. I think this scent is young but would fare up with an older woman as well. Id say this perfume is perfect from 18 straight into your 40s. Ofc any age can wear this its just the age range the scent is giving I hope that makes sense haha. I think its a cute kind of sexy scent not seductive and illusive that would be YSL black opium.A great blind buy for anyone !

martel.308

I wanted to try a Chanel Chance fragrance so badly, and was really excited when I saw the citrus notes in Eau Vive.

It is a very classy scent, with the fizzy Chanel dna that everyone talks about.

For reference, I am wearing this in my early/mid 20s. I find it very beautiful, but not for everyday wear (i.e. t-shirt and jeans, or business casual) because it turns a little Grandma-esque on me. Dressing formally though, it transforms into one of the best scents, and elevates the entire outfit! Treat this perfume properly, and it will work amazingly.

Definitely what I expected from such a famous fashion house. I look forward to trying other Chanel perfumes, especially from the Chance line.

scentofsalt

This is the most long-lasting fresh fragrance I own. The blood orange and grapefruit at the top are juicy with a bitter edge and blend nicely with the sweet jasmine. The scent is refreshing and puts a smile on my face every time. The cedar in the base lasts forever and compliments the grapefruit. I just bought a vintage dress with a fitted bodice, pleated skirt, and orange-and-white swirling print, which I can't wait to wear with Chance Eau Vive. The dress matches the playful, bold, sophisticated energy of the fragrance.

Eveningrose

I love the scent but honestly it doesn’t last that much . There is barely even a scent bubble . You are paying $95 for a Chanel grapefruit body mist! I just cannot justify it so it is going back due to weak performance and no projection :/

_manahiltahir

This ones a classic. A pleasant, daytime, non offensive scent. Very easy to wear. 7/10

risabunny

Top notes are very very citrusy. Not the super sweet kind— almost with a slight bitter edge. It’s pretty refreshing. Dry down is really nice and was my signature scent for a while. I like to overspray this so that the dry down can shine later in the day. Last much longer than you expect for an EDT… 6 + hours.

justbreatheely

Performance is almost overwhelming, Chanel did not disappoint me at that. This smells vaguely different from the one I smelled at the counter — that smelt a bit sweet, mine just smelt mainly citrus and almost manly. I would have loved this if mine was also a bit sweet. I got this secondhand so the juice might have already gotten bad.

blublond

This Chance seems infused with a large dose of Cristalle eau Verte. Perfect in the heat. Big love.

Ryn08

Powdery, floral, musky & simply irresistible. It lasted very long for me 6-8 hours.. It was love at first sight for me.. Smelled it at the chanel counter and it won me over. Now it is my 2nd bottle. Of the entire chance line, I love this the best. The 2nd would be Chance eau Fraiche.

Estela B

Somethings are just funny: my first passion in this line was the Eau Fraiche. When i finally bought it I couldn't stand it. Then the original Chance EDP became my go to in the line, I have it and I like even though I could not stand it before. I was willing to buy the Eau Tendre and the decided to try, again the Eau Vive, which was the only one I didn't care about and now...Now is the one I like the most! What a crazy shift! I can't really grasp what happened over the years except that my nove changed and now I smell them all differently, which is a real possibility.

Today I tried it on my skin. Well, some perfumes perform weirdly on some people. That was the case with Chanel Eau Vive with me. At first spray, I liked it. Midway things got awkward and I could feel a herbal note that, for me, felt like pot ( go figure...). Now, some 4 hours later, the dry down is pleasant and elegant. I feel now that, because of how the middle notes smell to me, I cannot each time wait 4 hours until it is good on my skin. So I will have to pass this one too. So far only the original Chance performed perfectly for me, yeah, chemistry is a strange thing.

Mynoseisblocked

For the price ..... It's a shame it's an EDT. I could barely smell it!!!!! so maybe it's a good option for a work wear scent? It is smooth but I find it very musky, like all the other notes sort of hide or blend into the musk...I found myself going back and forth in regards to whether I liked it or not...However, this is probably due to the price point and the brand which is why I think it would make a good gift.
I didn't really wear this scent just sprayed it. Nothing in the scent stands out after a minute. The only way I could tell it apart from the green one was because the green was more fresh. Like I said it makes a great gift, I don't see anyone being disappointed with it, it smells smooth, it's soft so not an offensive smell so even if they have issues with musk you wouldn't need to worry, the bottles also small and round which is kinda cute. So it's a great gift, I mean everythings better when it's free.

Perhaps if the price point wasn't so high and I had got it on sale or something I would have really liked it and worn it without guilt.

One thing that can be said though, I DEFINITELY liked this more than the chance EDP the first spray of that was utterly old lady esk, although it apparently does settle.

Anyhow I am new to scents so I do know this review is lacking but I'd like to continue the comparing the collection. Out of the collection my favourite was Tendre which is the most generic one however I felt like I could actually smell it. I could smell that it was fruity. Although I do admit, it does smell chemically cheap out of the four. It's also not every special you could get the same fruity sweet chemically scent from much more cheaper better alternatives! However vive and Fraiche have that Chanel DNA as some people have mentioned in the comments.
Also the green one apparently smells like Zara apple juice which I don't see at all! Apple juice is a lot more sweeter and has no depth to it. If you have to choose out of this Vive and the green one/fraiche then fraiche is a better option. Apparently it lasts longer too, and in my opinion it has the same musk qualities just fresh rather than sweet which is why Its staying in my current collection.

So basically I wouldn't really say I wouldn't want this but it's not something I'd notice was gone and run to repurchase straight away.

Like I said the collection was a let down as I couldn't really smell the collection. Perhaps this review is more of a rant....

However after giving sometime for the money aspect to dissipate I think the perfumes ok. It didn't really slay but it didn't really cause me to hate it. ( The whole collection that is not just this specific perfume. Except chance EDP I can't get past that inital spray I feel like I aged myself everytime I tried to use it). If you're blind buying like me, I don't think you'll be obsessed with this perfume nor do I think you'd hate it. If you have the money by all means go for it.... I think Chanel does tend to smell quite old or sophisticated. That's why the rest of the EDT collection is good for younger girls/women who tend to stay away from strong patchouli and overly deep musky scents and prefer lighter airy scents. Although in this case the scent is too soft for my liking as I can't smell anything special or nice. Kinda like when you over blend an art piece and suddenly your hard work no longer shows and just looks like a soft blob :O

biljagolub98

I just LOVE this perfume!! And every time I smell it, it takes me to places...

you_love_gabrielle

This is a beautiful citrus scent that is perfect for those hot spring or summer days. This is definitely strong on the grapefruit in a good way. It gives off moderate projection for about an hour, maybe 2, but then becomes a skin scent which is expected for an EDT. This is definitely a nice scent, simple, appealing, very girly. An easy reach for a daytime scent.

Paloma24

Loving it just for the Chanel DNA. The opening with the combination of citrus is like pure Lemon, then the florals kick in and the musk is a beautiful one. All in all it's Elegant to wear in the Spring/Summer like for a Wedding. It smells Crisp & Fresh with a beautiful floral. Can't go wrong with that! It does project in an indoor atmosphere gathering. And it lasts a good 6-8 hours. It's my first Chance perfume, and it does not dissapoint!

granny54

Perfect for the first day of spring. Sprayed on clothes and hair it leaves a beautiful, fresh trail.

CeeTee

Classy, fresh, and iris adds interest. Dries down sweet, but not overly so. Very, fresh, sophisticated frag for warmer weather. I like the bitterness and uniqueness of the blood orange instead of the usual citrus suspects.

This performed well on me, unlike most Chanels. (Darn you, Chanel!) This is an easy reach, but I don’t see myself buying a FB with so many things on my want this. I would wear it liberally, if it were a gift. Anyone? Anyone?

Poudery

It shouldn't come as a surprise that this fragrance is quite similar to Chance Eau Fraîche, although they're not entirely the same. Eau Fraîche is a bit woodier and Eau Vive has a distinct blood orange note. It's almost like a very fresh rose, a young blossom. I would say there's a good chance, that if you like one, you'll also like the other. I appreciate the slight differences and am enjoying these light and airy fragrances. If you're yearning for sunny spring days and breezy summer evenings, then this might cheer you up!

ParisLoveXo

I absolutely love the opening to this with the blood orange // grapefruit but after that it’s just nothing . It’s a shame to me the opening is what makes this unique but it goes to a skin scent and doesn’t last at all . And having the name Chanel and price point you’d expect more . I had it about to finish it and will not be repurchasing

HER30

Got this as a free sample from a Chanel order. Surprised how much I enjoy it! (I didn't really like Chance Eau Tendre when I tried it in the past - too young and cakey sweet for me.) Eau Vive is simple and straightforward to me - grapefruit, citrus, slight powdery violets notes (but not dusty), and dries down to sort of a watery floral scent on my skin. It's fresh, light, smells great on me. Youthful, uplifting, fresh. I love a fruity floral like this. This one may not impress a more discerning nose because of it's simplicity, but it is so easy for me to like and wear. I'd buy a full size.

adaloza

I’m having trouble thinking of words for this one. Sparkly? Something about it is…exciting? It’s sweet and fresh with an edge to it. I don’t think of it as smelling like citrus, but maybe that’s what others are describing. I can definitely detect the jasmine and cedar. I was almost instantly in love with this. It smells similar to Coco Mademoiselle, but while CM smells like a generic department store in any given mall, Chance has a more aquatic scent that makes it a little different, a little more interesting and not quite so soft. Chance and Coco are sisters maybe - Coco is what you wear in the cold with the knits, and Chance is what you wear in the heat with the silks.

erika.isme.98

Blood orange note is too much for me here. Definitely prefer Eua Tendre and Eau Fraiche!

nickinicole

First spray I was in love, but something turned on me as I continued shopping. I'm 1000% a citrus lover, but the addition of iris (and something else that I can't put my finger on) ruins the scent on my skin and it becomes less fresh and more powdery. The same happens with Chanel's Chance Eau Tendre EDT, but has never happened when using scents from the Coco Mademoiselle collection.

adelaidesandrina

This smells like you’re peeling apart the sweetest, juiciest grapefruit ever. It’s fresh, it’s sweet and it’s everything you want to drink in a hot summer day. Only the drydown is very reminiscent of the original chance edt/edp. It has that sexy cologne-y feel to it. Classic chanel!!

Sunkissed

Zesty and bright, not very strong. A nice option to try if you like Eau Fraîche, but want something else. Not for me, as I expected. I do not smell much resemblance to the original Chance. I will probably give it a try again someday because I want to test it on my skin.

Emera1d

It smells like a sweet fresh rose to my nose, but now looking at the notes there is no rose. Fresh, simple and nice, but way overpriced.

masako_30

Sophisticated woody citrus, wetness doesn't live here, there's no hesperidic effervescence or water dynamism to my nose. Only a brief feeling of freshness.
Gracefully compressed, compact, bitter powder, none of my scents have such a splendid dry powdery aftertaste.
This Chance eau Vive is burning ashes, is alive under an apparently motionless blanket.
It's exquisite, a Chanel to lose your head for. And I'm already well under way.

Jacklyn's Perfumery

I decided to try this in the cold as eau fraiche changes in the seasons with my body chemistry and this smells even better in the cold..it's gotten sweeter, the citrus is more present and the iris, jasmine, cedar and musk amp up...this is so good..I think I prefer to wear Eau Vive during the winter more than the summer and Eau Fraiche during the summer as that smells better on me during that season versus the winter. So strange how perfumes change like that. I'm almost tempted to try other fragrances during this time to see how much better they smell as I know that Midnight Poison smells amazing during this time of the year especially during the winter. I've gotten so many compliments wearing this fragrance too so it leaves a nice scent trail people pick up and notice more than other fragrances I own. People love Chanel and creamy citrus fragrances at that. I really am enjoying Eau Vive more and more. When comparing this with the original Chance edp it has all of the citrus of chance so the DNA is there. It just has that beautiful creamy floral & citrus that's easier for those who couldn't handle the stronger woods & cedar in Eau Fraiche. Very fresh and very Chanel. A good compliment getter that really shines in the winter. If you like fresh fragrances and wanted something a little more classy this is a lovely fresh fragrance to own. I find the more time I have had with it the more I understand it and love it more.

cocoma

Nice and citrusy but nothing special. Smelled it on me right after applying and it seems it blew right off me after that, very poor longevity.

kati77

This scent is nice first 30 minutes, then it lacks of strenght and sillage. Can not detect it anymore.
I have too little impressions to judge, to make a review. Nice fresh smell then it disappears.

Enrium

This light, inoffensive scent opens with a burst of citrus - mostly grapefruit with some slightly tart orange. The citrus notes strike the perfect balance between being sweet and tart, making for a high quality scent that is fresh yet distinctly feminine. There is no sharpness at all, a rarity with citrus-fresh scents. There is also a slight aquatic quality to the opening which adds to the freshness.

Delicate white florals creep in soon afterwards, complemented by soft woody notes. Subtle vetiver emerges, providing some greenness, and a hint of citrus remains as it dries down. It fades to a musky, soapy skin scent soon afterwards.

The ingredients used are realistic and soft, consistent with the high quality associated with Chanel. This scent is cohesive and well-blended. Sillage is moderate, and longevity weak to moderate, lasting for about two hours, but is acceptable for an EDT. This is a nicely crafted feminine day scent; elegant, discreet and sophisticated. Eau Vive is a crowdpleaser, nothing special or unique, but is an uplifting, fresh scent. Garners compliments. Despite not being exactly to my taste (I prefer richer scents and hardly ever choose EDTs), I can appreciate its quality. 3/5.

ghkim

This is citrus-y, fresh, and feminine. Nothing super unique but very likable and inoffensive. Perfect for a hot summer day when you need something refreshing. It has impressive longevity - I sprayed it on at 6:45am and although it is now a skin scent I can still smell it at 7pm. I don't get much in the way of woods or musk. Solid like.

monicab22.1

When I purchased this I was thinking this would be a special occasion scent, but it is so fresh and long lasting I love to wear it every day. This is refreshing and is a great pick me up. So Happy I invested in this one.

Miss.Tara

I don't get particular notes in the first hour other than a slightly aquatic floral similar to the style of Creed's Spring Flower. This is like Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Noir, without the Noir. You might ask, wouldn't that just be Mademoiselle? Not in my opinion. The dry down takes a good 40 minutes with this one, so resist the urge to scrub it off. I wonder if the experience would be better in a rollerball or dabber? Or maybe only spray on clothes? The dry down is deeper than Creed's Spring Flower. It's warm without being vanilla-y or overly resinous (which I love, but not in a fresh Spring scent). If I had to relate this scent using more fragrances as a reference, I'd say this is Clinique's Happy + Chanel DNA + a little warmth from resins. I tend to get instant headaches from D&G Light Blue or anything really sharp. This is sharp in that it's a fresh floral, but I don't get even the slightest twinge of a headache.

carlahoffman

I love this it smells quite citrusy with the grapefruit as the star being so sweet and fresh. The citrus adds to the jasmine making it sweet and so ever pretty. It such a fun scent to wear that has a good projection and lasted all day before I might, add a extra spray.

It fits with the Chanel family of great perfumes. It makes me feel so good and smell so pretty. I enjoyed the woody, light spicy dry down like the perfect ending to a story. Works for day or night use, perfect for this cooler weather. Lovey addition to my collection.

Eau Vive Chance is my favorite out of all Chance. I also own Chance EDP and Chance Eau Fraiche. I wished Eau Tendre will work for me, when I put it it turns to a generic white floral and mediocre citrus that smells unisex. It’s just me, because Eau Tendre smells amazing like as described ingredients on my friends.

Back to the star, why do I love Eau Vive so much? I love grapefruit! It stays citrus and does not turn sour, it’s the fresh peeled sweet grapefruit which no other fragrance have this quality. It is fruity the first hour and integrates into a more mature sweet floral middle notes that is non cloying like many other sweet scents.

Silage is great, it follows you! Other Citrus fragrance really don’t have this kind of staying power. Eau Vive is one of the kind from Chanel- very uplifting, sexy, and womanly, and the tartness makes it refreshing out of all other lines it’s perfect for summer!

Works for spring too however more towards summer because for spring fragrance I do think of grassy and morning dew and Eau Vive is more citrus than dewy. Summer, here I come with Eau Vive!

mellyv1973

Fresh, crisp, sparkly...great for warm weather, or as a signature scent for everyday wear. Classy, but approachable. Wish it lasted longer on my skin, but it's so pleasant and happy making, I can forgive the performance.

CurrencyThat

Opens with a sugary-sweet burst of what smells like orange to me initially. I also get grapefruit in the opening. As it dries down I pick up even more fruitiness and grapefruit starts to become more prominent than orange while as a whole it remains sugary-sweet. At some point it starts to morph into a floral, and that transition is noticeable for me in that it isn't particularly pleasant throughout. As it transitions, it first dries down to a sharp floral with wafts of grapefruit, then becomes less sharp but amplified by citrus accords until it eventually settles into a soapy, citrusy-sweet floral. It's girly and lighthearted.

Jacklyn's Perfumery

Oh my gosh I finally got a sample of this with my Chanel No 19 order and this is so good. I don't know why this is not talked about as much as Eau Fraiche but I love this even more than Chance Eau Fraiche because its not rough around the edges as Eau Fraiche can sometimes be. It appears they smooth it out in this new one. This is definitely going to be my next purchase and I'm getting a 5 oz bottle of this..it's that good. Because of the blood orange and grapefruit this is like a fresh citrus candy bomb mixed with musks and cedar. At first I thought this had magnolia in it because it becomes very creamy along with the citrus freshness, but it appears there is jasmine in this and the vetiver mixed with the grapefruit, blood orange and jasmine makes this such a smoother release than Eau Fraiche. Sorry Eau Fraiche you have been dethroned by Eau Vive..lol. This is the freshie I will go to for Spring & Summer because that creamy white floral with the citruses is just so good to me personally. Wow..now why did I have to try this one just when I went on another no buy. lol. I can't..I'll have to go on a no buy after I get Eau Vive.. I need this in my life it's so good. Chanel make this an edp!

Sol0013

The most floral of chance series. If I were to assign seasons to chance perfumes:
Eau vive spring 🌸
Eau fraische eau tendre summer 🍋
Chance fall 🍂

scentnut

The notes on the Chanel website are different. Top: grapefruit and blood orange, heart: jasmine, base: cedar and iris. That is exactly how it transitions on me as well. The way Chanel does iris is just ahhhh 😍 and it is the common theme in many Chance flankers which I adore. Eau Vive is very close to the original Chance EDT but without the vetiver in the base that can come across as “masculine” sometimes (despite the notes listed here). I would call this “Chance Summer.” The grapefruit does have some sourness and it does smell like sweat a little, but the good kind of salty sweat like you’re laying on the beach in the hot sun. Longevity and projection as expected for an EDT. I sampled and bought it within an hour! A lovely addition for any Chanel / Chance flanker collector. It was sunny and 70 where I live today and I am on spring break so Eau Vive perfectly fit the vibe!

karen.fiallos

Again my favourite perfumer behind this fragrance, so I knew I could not go too wrong with a blind buy. I had CHANCE original for years before in my 30's, it was a fresh crispy fragrance that gets quite heavy but I loved it, I felt classy wearing it. I was not a fan of Coco Mademoiselle yet back then but I liked patchouli florals a lot. CHANCE eau vive is a pretty lighter version of Chance. Better to me than Eau Tendre as it has more character for a more mature audience. To me it is a spring perfume all the way, can't go wrong with it, it is pleasant to almost anyone and I could say "country club classy". Good for a casual weekend, after the gym, to go for coffee or to the office. This won't offend anyone and it is a safe buy if you like orange and lemons on your fragrances. Is it unique? Not really, a safe citrusy floral I would say.

scentist

I tried it at a mall and found it too meh so I didnt plan to buy it because I said to myself I could get better value with another perfume. Bought it second-hand and I find it quite strong this time, maybe it's an older bottle and they changed the formulation. It's a pleasant airy perfume, best in the Chance line. Unfortunately I get a lot of vetiver which makes it a bit masculine on me but I'm trying to forget about it and enjoy it as a whole :). Its a very universal perfume and you can't go wrong with it, but test first.

Keonaaa

I adore this perfume. Initially, I hated it and had boxed it back up to return it to the store. The very next day, I wore a robe that I had sprayed Eau Vive on. Right then and there I knew I couldn’t return it. It’s bright, sexy and just my type of scent. I have a lot of perfume and this one has become my new signature. It’s all I want to wear. I’ve been neglecting my other bottles. I bought a back up bottle since people don’t like it. I am afraid of discontinuance.

sameenuk

Ooh. I like this. Smelled it on a friend. Wanted it for myself as a keepers scent. It's tad costly but it just means not any woman will wear it but a true connieuseurs.

I like it for it's jasmine and orange note. When you think about it. Not that imaginative but actually I appreciate something simple..wish there was a guys version

It is quite overpriced for what it is but I don't feel like anybody could dislike this perfume. It's very feminine, non-offensive and pleasant. Good for women of all ages. Maybe if this was on sale I would buy it.

BlondieCurls

This is another winner from Chanel, very citrus and I find the orange notes to be strong on opening which I love. I do have a problem with some of the citrus as it dries down as I find it smells a little like sweat to me but it's such a lovely scent that I won't give up on it, or maybe it's a musk in the fragrance causing this. If you like citrus fragrances then you have to try this, I think it's also totally unisex and would smell great on a guy. It lasts well, not a ' resprayer' to me and also the citrus I find to be quite dense, imagine overripe oranges and lemons just on the verge of turning/ almost on the border of decay and ' meaty', that for me is CEV. It's excellent.

LMD

I thought that as it was Chanel and is very expensive that it would be really special. Unfortunately it isn't, to me it's pretty ordinary. It's nice enough, this citrus floral. But it didn't capture my imagination and make me feel great the way your special or favourite perfumes do. A bit too sharp with citrus on the opening but it rapidly fades into a pleasant woody floral before disappearing. The drydown is nice but nothing you haven't seen before. Not worth the money in my opinion. I had ordered samples of eau fraiche and eau tendre as well as this. This is the only one I haven't finished. Eau tendre would be my pick out of the three, but in all honesty I wouldn't buy a full bottle of any of them. The search for a freshie that fills me with joy and doesn't disappear in two seconds flat continues.

Mez0Nez

Unfortunately, I cannot find any citruses that I know, except lime nuance. It smells like some sulfuric pineapple and Dihydromyrcenol nuance(herbal and limey, like a skin toner for men) and a bit of powdery and musky with animal, fatty smell(maybe is this Blood orange?). The dry down is smelling like Chance original without patchouli.

Cookietookie215

Eau Tendre too fruity? Eau Fraiche too masculine? Original Chance too mature? Eau Vive is the perfect mediator! It brings juicy citrus to the table, just enough oomph to make you feel elegant and just the right blend that brings out complexity.

The citrus adds a bright and invigorating punch, then the lovely soft florals come as decorations, nothing too over powering just subtle enough. And the lovely woods that add that mystique and unique touch that Chanel only knows how to do. Thats where the magic happens, in the base.

This is a fragrance I can see someone wearing out to a fancy place or special occasion in the summer. Ouuu the smell of rich people mingling , expensive floral bouquets, lemonade and fruity summer cocktails. Elegance, sophistication and youthfulness all in one. The Chanel way, the right way. Try it out!

vanillaflower77

I am praying they make this into an edp soon!
The bottle I had from 2015 was stronger and had more distinct stages of development
The new version is still good though.
An edp would be a fantastic addition though!! ❤️❤️❤️
Sweet jasmine strong citrus 🍊

So feminine

LibraMoon

I've had this since it came out. So yummy, blood orange, bit of florals, woods. Good sillage n stays on long.

Lauren19

I thought I would love the citrus mix of grapefruit and lemon but I find this one to be over the top with the citrus and is becomes almost too sweet. The longevity and projection is not great and I think overall this is underwhelming.

fyrewoman

I love the beginning phases of Eau Vive with the refreshing citruses.

After about 2 hours the musk and vetiver take over and become too masculine for my tastes these days. The citrus top notes get flushed out from vetiver and musk. I can still notice SOME citrus but not as pleasantly like before.

I wish the iris would take over and linger around instead of the heavy musk and vetiver base notes. For this reason, I feel it is easily unisex. It's great on my partner and he is pleased with it.

Mrsmooreavl

Fresh, citrusy, green, wet, light florals, very clean. I love it!!!! This smells sooooo good! Beautiful for all ages, classic, timeless. Could easily be someone’s signature fragrance. Perfect for gifting.

raiza1990

The opening is soft citrusy. Pleasant. Later it gets a bit powdery and the grapefruit gets warm and starts smelling like sweat.
Overall, a nice fresh fragrance, specially if you’re looking for a soft citrus.
If it smelled like the opening the entire time i would have enjoyed it more.
Anyways, nice fragrance.
Final note: 7/10

Nancy83

I have tried the wrong Chance perfume at the store, I wanted to test Eau Tendre to compare it with Marc Jacobs Daisy, but I end up picking Eau Vive instead.

The sillage starts strong, it's citrus floral, maybe too vintagy floral for my everyday teeth, the opening is full grapefruit on me, kind of reminds me Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. After 2-3 hours, the projection is more moderate soft, more floral, I prefer this part. I get some swift of vintagy perfumes like Cacharel Anais Anais or Avon, probably the iris and the jasmine. After 4-5 hours the smell is woodier and more faint, but I get random sniffs for the rest of the day.

I didn't hate it, if I had a sample I would use it, but the perfume is not fully my type and Eau Tendre still interests me more.

carabara84

I have had a bottle of original Chance EDT or EDP in my collection for years. Can't be without it. It's a very nostalgic fragrance for me and transports me to Paris where I smelled it for the first time upon release in 2002. As much as I love it, I find the patchouli and pink pepper notes a bit much for every day wear. It can sometimes induce headaches. Over the years, I've fallen in love with Eau Tendre (especially love the EDP) and most recently Eau Vive. The only one I can't get on board with is Eau Fraîche as it's too like the original IMO to justify owning a bottle. Eau Vive is lighthearted, juicy, uplifting... it just makes me smile when I wear it. It's non-offensive and office friendly. I think this will be amazing in the warmer months, but I don't think it's terribly out of place when you need a pick me up in a state of "winter blues". It does warm up a tad with the cedar in the dry down after about 4 hours. It's not terrific for lasting - I'd say I get maybe 6 hours before it's a skin scent. I don't know why this doesn't get more love out of the line (especially over eau fraîche). It's so nice!

sterra

I had the classic Chance and Tendre, but they quickly started to annoy me. Only Fraiche made a positive impression on me and - were it not for the fact that they were not particularly durable on my skin - they would probably be at the forefront of favorites. Recently, however, I started testing eau Vive. Chance eau Vive is the best Chance for me. This is one of the best citrus compositions I have come into contact with, because the citruses are presented in a very elegant, sweet way. Chance eau Vive is a perfume for life, suitable for every stylization and occasion (in warmer weather). It is certain that it smells expensive, pleasant and you do not need to carry a bottle, because durability is phenomenal. On the wrist they last for 12 - 14 hours, overall reach twenty. I recommend testing.

JodieAx

This fragrance is a strong citrus. it definitely smells expensive and luxurious. its fresh because of the citrus but its not subtle and light, I find it quite bold and attention grabbing. its not for someone who wants to blend in and be quietly in the corner. its for someone with a vibrant , confident, full of life personality to match the scent. thats my opinion any way.

I blind bought this based on the fact I loved the original chance and it was fairly cheap second hand. however, Im not a big fan of it and am going to sell it to someone who will love it because many do. its just too citrusy for me

embomb

Please make an edp of this, Chanel!

This is hands down the best citrus perfume I've ever tried. It starts off with a delicious orange with a slightly aquatic background and slowly turns into such a gorgeous orange lotion that's so unbelievably comfortable to wear. It's not loud, but just beautiful for days when that's all you need 😍

ojosverdes

This is a charming scent that screams understated elegance. You cannot go wrong with this scent if you like fresh simple, clean scents. It's perfect for spring and summer days. It's long lasting with decent projection. I just purchase a second larger bottle bottle as a backup. Can't be without it! Simply amazing!

Rozan

Eau Vive it combines the advantages of Eau Tendre and Eau Fraiche. With Eau Tendre, I can feel juiciness and delicate powder, with Eau Fraiche, I can feel elegant coolness. Vetiver - similarly as in Eau Fraiche - it sounds subtle here, keeps the powdered iris in check, not allowing the composition to be transformed into creamy soap, but Eau Vive does not take on typically male tones. Eau Vive is not an innocent girl (Eau Tendre), but a woman full of grace and subtle elegance. Jasmine beautifully blends with white musk, and citrus is not obvious here, spicy or cologne, but juicy, smooth and slightly powdered. Chanel Chance eau Vive is a nice and elegant perfume.

pandasjors

Chanel Chance eau Vive is truely one of the weirdest fragrances I've ever come across and I will try to explain why.

When it was released, I smelled it from the bottle and on a card and found it to be truely unremarkable so I never payed it any more attention. Years later I met someone who wore it and who absolutely smelled divine. Soapy clean, but also fresh, and classic, and like expensive bodycream - all at the same time. Besides that it smelled familiar, but I couldn't place it. I then found out it was Eau Vive and the same day I went to get a sample of this scent.

This fragrance -allthough I will never buy it for myself- is a true masterpiece because it goes trough so many stages, it is uncanny!

Stage 1: Fresh, sharp burst of citrus. Smells almost indefinable, does not smell good either
Stage 2: smells almost exactly the same als Gabrielle by Chanel, which I don't like
Stage 3: Still sharp but gets softer, turns into floral fragrance
Stage 4: Smells like pure weed, and that's no joke
Stage 5: It gets powdery
Stage 6: It gets powdery to the point it leans towards Chanel no 5 (verrrry classic smelling)
Stage 7: Powdery turns into smooth white floral
Stage 8: WHAT? It smells like Chanel Allure Sensuelle, but less smokey
Stage 9: Yup, definately an Allure vibe going on here, I would mistake this on someone else for sure.

Never ever have I smelled something so weird and exciting almost! But.. it is not my jam. I would go for Allure Sensuelle immediately.

Happiness_in_a_Bottle

I'm so on the fence with Eau vive! I tested Eau Tendre (solid like, but similar to other perfumes), Eau fraiche (beautiful, but I have versense and they are in the same family) and Eau Vive. I liked Vive the best. It is surprsingly long lasting.

The blood orange stands out, especially in the drydown. EV has a bright sunny personality, crisp and joyful. I would like to have it, but each time I test it something doesn't quite convince me. I don't know why.

Mwoodle

Has become my new favorite. Starts out a very citrus but mellows quickly into a nice smooth musky mellow scent. Very unique

ParisLoveXo

What a beautiful scent , soooo feminine and girly and expensive smelling .
Opening with a citrusy/ sour smell of the grapefruit and blood orange ,
Florals
Help to balance out
I reallyyy like this scent . Light and airy yet sharp and pungent if that makes any sense!
5/5 stars

gillbert

in the opening is heavy and huge citrus, bitter and sour grapefruit followed by lovely and sweet jasmine, then light woody and silky iris vibe in dry down, overall is clean fresh sweet and airy perfume, easy to wear for every day

MixedTastes

This is a fabulous tonic for cold, crisp weather!

The juicy, bitter-sweet blood orange opening is bold, fresh and invigorating. The dry down is a lingering citrus-musk, undercut with a gentle, restorative iris.

A beautiful fragrance for a brisk winter's morning.

milkara

The scent is nice citrus-y fresh but it does remind me too much of bathroom cleaner.
The dry down on the other hand is very pretty and I like it a lot but it's not worth smelling like a recently washed bathroom for couple of hours. The opening notes also stick on my clothes and I can smell the blood orange and the grapefruit for hours which I believe are the notes that remind me of some cleaning product.
Hopefully one day I'll find a Chanel fragrance that I enjoy.

huda_jubail

I love Eau Vive, and it reminds me a lot of (Clinique Happy 2003) which I use to wear in 2005, so when I tried this Chance Eau Vive I remembered the scent of (clinique happy) immediately.
No wonder if Olivier Polge is the same perfumer behind both of them.
And I ALSO find some similarities with his (Chanel GABRIELLE) :) And I love them all.

Michelle12345678

This starts out as a bright citrus, but becomes a jasmine scent. Very well-blended. Ends up as a slightly bitter citrus skin scent.

I don't get a masculine vibe from this, it's pretty feminine IMO. The original Chanel Chance is unisex, but this leans feminine IMO.

Rianna

You can't go wrong with a bit of Chanel can you? Fresh, feminine, clean, a little woodsy but not too much, slightly powdery - just enough, and delicious enough to wear anywhere. You can't not like it and it smells expensive. The perfect smell for the classy feminine women. Love it.

éciboszi

If you have this smell you have a happy feeling. It is very good for summer.

jellybeantree

This is amazing !
Let me just say that everyone can find their Chance fragrance ! Mine is this one . If you love fresh floral musky fragrances that last then this for you. Great for all occasions and longer lasting than many EDP's ! Uplifting like the name 'LIVING WATER' ! I have the 150 ml bottle . Worth every penny!

Germany

VIVE starts very citrusy and tropical , a blast of orange ,grapefruit and clean musk ,vibrant , sweet and warm. I love the cedar and iris in the base and how clean and classy and refreshing it feels.
I bought a bottle 3 years ago when it came out and misplaced it somehow. The other day I smelled this on a friend and was shocked how good it was. Why don’t I wear this I thought ,,I hunted for my bottle the whole day. Still couldn’t locate it , so I had to go out and buy a new one. I also got the dry spray oil which is phantastic! After my shower I spray the oil all over me which moisturizes beautifully and leaves me feeling fresh and smelling like orange and musk. I top it up with 3 sprayes of VIVE and I am set. Many compliments by my family ,it makes me want the EDP Chance now. All the chances have something in comon. Different aspects are inhanced. Here the citrus woody and fresh musky notes are lifted to the foreground. There also is a unisex masculine vibe . A classy cologne vibe.

kati77

Lightly sweet and refreshing.
New chypre, modern one. It's fresh and slightly sweet. Nice, young etc......Just poor longevity and sillage on me. I am testing it in summer time.

tyekristopher

I love Chanel vive , it’s so refreshing, sexy and the fragrance is just vibrant and juicy. The blood orange is divine and it wears beautifully on me, of all the chances vive is for me. Soapy and clean equals win

mark03

In eau vive I feel the hyacint in the drydown which I dont feel in the tendre version. The tendre version has a detergent note that I dont like. Eau vive is modern, fresh, young and funny yet chic and bon ton in its own way. Of course its very different from the Chanel classics, but its a valid modern offer of the brand.

liviajune

I'm not a big fan of citrus, though I can appreciate a good one (Chance eau fraiche). That said Chance eau vive is so very forgettable and unremarkable. Doesn't have Chanel's usual crispness, dry-down is musty and has rather masculine quality (and not in the good way).
Certainly not worth the high price.

olliejosh32

It opens with a blast of blood orange, and grapefruit, then turns into a fizzy orange smell for a while. As time goes by it becomes pretty and floral, like a smell of delicate spring flowers, which is possibly the iris or jasmine. Like all Chanel perfumes it develops. and changes as you are wearing it. At one point I though the smell might just fade away but it's still here a few hours later. It's quite subtle but I'm sure it would be a beautiful day time fragrance to own. I'm quite to try one of the Chance fragrances but I'm not sure which one yet.

judybikmeit

As Chanel Chance Eau Tendre smells something like the Original Daisy by Marc Jacobs this one also smells something like one of its flankers. Although Im not exactly sure which one anymore as Daisy got a looot! This doesnt seem to have Patch unlike most Chanel perfumes. So to those who hates Patch notes in their fragrances. This is the Chanel for you. This also tends to be a little masculine to some skin chemistry such as mine with some citrus notes. In totality not a bad perfume. Longetivity is, even if you wash yourself you can still smell it.

Gellert77

This is my favourite of the Chance series. First of all -no pathouli (!) which is always a difficult note for me, devouring all the other notes on my skin. Second; a lovely, sweet, moderate citrus, refreshing but not the turbo kind, that will make your eyes water and get you thinking about home maintenance products. Third; a classic drydown of white musk/cedar/iris giving the scent elegance and grace.
I don't mind the (expensive) shampoo/ fresh out of shower comparisons, these are the reasons why I bought the scent! ;-D
I would recommend this to all in search of an uplifting and fresh spring scent with a classic vibe who find most of the citrus opening scents too harsh or without a proper base. This scent will tenderly enliven your senses and bring you to summer.

Ps:In the northenmost Europe where I live (and the summer temperatures rarely exceed 25°C) this would be a wonderful summer scent as well.

allumez

Later edit: I decided to give it a serious try. It is a Chanel, at the end of the day...
So, each and every single time I'm wearing this, someone asks me what I am wearing, as it smells really nice.
So, yes - Allure - but a friendlier Allure. Lasts about 6 hours and leaves a nice citrusy trace. Works great on a spring chilly day. Office friendly - absolutely.
I think it works well for a gentleman as well.

Out of the three sisters (gorgeous Eau Tendre, cold crisp Eau Fraiche) I find this the least appealing. I mean, its name is so majestic, but the smell, well... A shy attempt of an Allure.
It has the headache factor as well. The other sisters-pretty safe blind buys. This one please try it before hand.
I wish I hadn't blind bought it.

bibibling

I am so mad at you guys right now! How can a perfume this nice be this underrated?? It should be right there next to Eau Tendre, not all the way on the bottom with the hair mists!

I am a huge fan of Eau Tendre to the point where I was like "I love you so much I need another flanker of you!" The Eau Tendre hair mist was too redundant And I didn't like the Original Chance that much, couldn't find anyplace that sells Chance EDT to test, and Eau Fraiche was a little bit too 'fraiche' if you know what I mean, but Eau Vive is sooooo perrrrrfeeeeccct!!! If I could put emojis here there would be a million swooning heart emojis right now.

Okay, basically let's start with Eau Tendre, remove the sweet quince note and the hyancinth, (but leave juuust a little bit of hyacinth, even though it isn't listed) and tart it up with a bit of sweet, dainty, flowery blood orange and you have eau Vive. They are that similar. If scents were colors and Eau Tendre is a soft pastel pink, Eau Vive is a soft pastel apricot-peach color. This is what I expect when I deal with flankers, that it remain similar enough to be recognizably in the same family but with a great twist and the blood orange does exactly that. And it's a very delicate, dainty, girly blood orange. It doesn't give that FRESH SPORT vibe many citruses can bring. In the dry-down, there is the tartness of a real fresh strawberry that adds a new dimension to the mix. It's not gourmand candy strawberry, it's the real deal, the actual just-bitten fruit smell.

Anyone who loves Eau Tendre needs Eau Vive in their lives, to be honest. Maybe people don't want to give it a chance because it was made by "Polge Jr." rather than master perfumer Jacques Polge but that's just silly. Olivier Polge has a lot of perfumes under his belt now and though his Gabrielle was a disappointment, Eau Vive is still so good, it's seriously blind-buy worthy.

Ok so earlier I reviewed this, and at the time I figured it was a scent that was nice, but one that was so-so & I'd never buy the bottle...I was wrong.

This scent is so fresh I had to get it! Not only is this a great as a year-round scent, Chanel managed to make Eau Vive a powerhouse in longevity and sillage. Really though, after all the reformulations going on and the weakness of some current fragrances, Eau Vive is not a weak one.

This opens up with a blast of aquatic and zesty citrus notes mixed with a faint but present white floral, which stays around for quite some time. However, in the dry down, the borderline masculine-type woodiness comes to play along with the smooth white musk.

Descriptors that I think entail this scent include aquatic, bright, zesty, but also grounded with the woodiness.

kellymi

This opens with a strong citrus, a tiny bit masculine. It was a gift and I put it in the back of the closet feeling it was too strong for me.

It's November now, and I decided to try it again. I put it on, and the citrus was there, but it smoothed out. After a short while it took on an expensive make-up scent-- nice, powdery. Good for running around or a night out.

Seducianne

I really have trouble appreciating this. So much overwhelming, reigning, pure, loud citrus. I can smell almost nothing else. Some faint flowers on the background after a couple of hours, and the drydown is quite generic. This could be literally any youth perfume. It opens really sharp and, well, citrusy and also quite masculine. On the other hand, it's not a BAD perfume, it's just quite unimaginative, but it might flatter some lucky ladies with a sporty style, in a hot summer day, quite well. Chanel Chance is quite a hit and miss for me, with Eau tendre smelling like Daisy and this, like any (well balanced) air freshener.

comfortablynumb83

Finally got my hands on a bottle! Eau vive is breathtaking. I think I may like this more than eau tendre. Star note is grapefruit, with other citrus nuances. I also smell Jasmine. Eau vive is a fresh citrus scent with Jasmine undertones. If we were to categorize chance eau tendre vs eau vive, I'd say eau tendre is the younger carefree sister whereas eau vive is serious, knows what she wants but does know how to have a good time when she feels it's appropriate.
Edit: it's been over a month since I wrote this review and I'm still obsessed with eau vive. I've had a few perfume that I was crazy about but a week or two later I'd be bored. There is something about eau vive that I absolutely love. I'd compare the feeling to when you fall in love with someone and you just know in your heart that they are 'the one'. That's how I feel about eau vive. I've loved many others, but this is irreplaceable. I assume this is how one finds their signature scent; they just get that feeling of knowing that this is it! Just like a relationship, when I'm not wearing eau vive, I'm thinking about it, comparable to missing your significant other.
Also, there is nothing else that smells just like eau vive, yet another reason she is so very signature worthy.

Wow, what a beautiful addition to the Chance line! I haven't been a fan of other Chances in the past .. I found them much too citrusy with a strong dose of woody musk (very much like sour body odor).

This one is quite interesting with its notes, and I feel how they present themselves (on my skin, at least) is a little all over the place. It opens with a light, fresh citrus note, but that fades after about 30 minutes to reveal a naturally sweet, white floral mixed with a nice bit of musk (very Chanel-y). Then, after several hours of wear, it returns to citrus with musk. This citrus-musk base is both fresh and heavy. Certainly not a bad revelation of notes, just odd and unexpected, which I suppose adds a bit of charm to the scent.

Sillage and longevity are pretty good. I think this is a light perfume that will work best in the spring and summer. I've already put this on my wishlist and plan to purchase a bottle next spring.

*NOTE: Oh my goodness! This is probably the third time I've edited this review. This perfume is a conundrum. Each time I wear it, I notice something different - sillage, longevity, note characteristics, etc. I still enjoy it, but because it blossoms differently each time I wear it, I highly recommend getting a nicely sized sample and testing it over several days.

Wow, Chanel...they put Eau Vive in the Chance line, what, I think it's the fifth one or so, they gave it a pale pink color, and made it out to be an easy, bright citrus perfume...so of course I ignored it until very recently. I was not expecting to think much of this, as I though it would be a weak, fleeting, 'non-offensive' type of scent.

So you know where I'm going, I couldn't have been more wrong. I love when I'm wrong like this! Eau Vive does have a lot of citrus notes, but they are VERY long lasting on my skin, with the lighter/bitter grapefruit notes on top, and the heavier/denser/sweeter blood red oranges thorough the heart. The blood orange notes last hours on my skin, and eventually they co-mingle with the jasmine, which is thick and full and even a little bit skanky. The iris note shows up as Eau Vive begins to drydown. The dry down is what really blew me away, as it is NOT an insipid 'citrus cologne' base, not at all, it is primarily a woody vetiver and dry iris, with a lot of sandalwood, incense, and musk thrown in for good measure.

Some reviewers comment that the base is too 'masculine' and I do see what they mean--the woody base is STRONG and assertive, and yeah, if you're a woman who doesn't like woody perfumes, then you're not going to dig this. Really I am surprised at the strength, character, and tenacity of the base, it's the best part for me. It's a confidence wood, that vetiver-iris-sandalwood just spells confidence.

And the performance? Amazing!! Lasts on my skin ALL DAY, I even refrained from doing a retouch when I wore this the other day, just to see how long it would really last. It went a good 12 hours with say 4 to 6 sprays. I notice that if I catch a bit of Eau Vive on my clothing, I get nice hints of blood orange and jasmine throughout the wear, while after about 4 hours on the skin it dries down into that fabulous vetiver/iris base.

Awesome job Chanel! I am genuinely excited to have found this.

Chic-girl

This is my most favourite scent right now. I don't care other Chanels that I know (except Cristalle edp, Cristalle eau Verte, and 19 Poudre) though I have 14 of them. Guerlain is my favourite house. This has citruses ( I love that blood orange), iris, vetiver and no vanilla, no patchouli. It is just so delicious, classy, sweet but not too much, fresh, feminine... and it lasts.
I like the bottle too
When I smelled it first time from a sample I was given, I didn't gave it much attention, because it seemed another generic smell. But later I really fell in love with it.

anapardo81

I bought this because it smelled so beautiful on the girl at the register. On me however it never developed. Very boring. My sisters came to visit me and on both of them that bottle that was so boring on me developed into an absolutely beautifully scent on them. I gave it to them. Chanel perfumes either work terrible with my chemistry or never develop into anything memorable or beautiful. I have bought so many different ones or tried them and they have all failed me. Only coco mademoiselle kinda of workstuff for me but it still smells much nicer on my mom.

Nil3

Hmmm,
How come my sister in law has a huge 150 ml bottle of this ?

tandaina

Sadly on me this lasts about five minutes. it's pretty and bright while it lasts but then even sticking my nose against my skin I get nothing.

shannfernando

It breaks my heart to see such negative reviews about this fragrance. This is my MOST FAVOURITE and MOST COMPLIMENTED fragrance ever!! It's a masterpiece in my opinion. You just have to give it the right chance.

Eau Vive, roughly translates to "Living Water" and I completely agree!! It's never mellow and never understated. It starts off with a beautiful grapefruit/blood orange note and dances and sashays its way to the woody accords. But the beauty of it is, the fruity floral notes never leaves you! It continues to dance through the woods and take your by surprise.

When I wear Eau Vive I think of what it feels like to go to the Russian Ballet Center to watch a recital of Swan Lake. The way those dancers move so gracefully yet grabbing your attention and taking you by complete surprise! It's a wonderful first perfume in the house of Chanel by the son of the Guru, Olivier Polge. Props to him for that. People always say that Olivier has not created as much as Jacques.. which is crazy in my opinion. Here's a list of perfumes created by Olivier which might right a bell!

Dior Homme
Dior Pure Poison
Dolce & Gabbana The One for men
Armani Code for Women
Jimmy Choo for Women (and all its flankers)
Lancome La Vie Est Belle (and many of its flankers)
Paco Robanne Invictus
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

DONT BE SO HARSH ON HIM. Many of these fragrances have been hit sellers for years!

Don't give up on Eau Vive, take a chance on it! (No pun intended.) Don't test it on a strip of paper. Get yourself a sample and wear it from morning till night. You will come to love it, I just know it!

ALSO have you noticed? There's NOTHING else that smells like it!

I gave Eau Vive another shot after it sat unloved and mostly forgotten for over a year in my closet. I'd fallen in love with it a couple of years ago, spraying it on every chance I'd get as I passed by the Chanel counter at work in the mornings. Once I had my own bottle, though, I realized I didn't love it so much... There were simply other 'fumes I'd reach for, and it got to where I forgot I even had it in my collection. Yesterday, I decided to test it out again. It was a hot summer day. At first, I recalled what made me love it in the first place, those sparkling citruses and the slight masculine edge. It lasted through the stifling hot day, and the sillage was incredible. However, the base let me down. The drydown was too masculine for my taste, with dry cedar and heavy vetiver drowning out the citruses. It was slightly repulsive. Every once in a while, the citruses would shine through, but it seemed like the various notes weren't quite meant for one another. Or perhaps citruses just don't settle well on my skin. Either way, I'm not sure I want to hold onto this quite full bottle.

I am baffled at the reviews that say that this does not last. Like most Chanels, this is a sillage bomb, and it lasts forever on my skin! Two sprays and everyone in your vicinity will be able to smell you. Any more than that and you will suffocate people around you. Like the entire Chance line, this is a heady, potent juice that expands around you and lingers for a long time on skin and clothes. It starts with a gorgeous blast of blood orange that quickly dries to bitter citrus zest, musk, vetiver and jasmine. The overall effect is of a musky soap bar with bitter citrus notes hovering over it. It has a clean unisex feel that borders on masculine, and it stays fresh and clean throughout the day, which I love. It's also very, very elegant, with that unmistakable Chanel vibe. I obtained a sample a Sephora a few months ago, when the weather was still cold. Did not care for it then. Now that the weather is warm, I began wearing it everyday after my morning shower and find it perfect for me. The warm weather really brought out the beauty in this juice! Once my sample is done, I am going to purchase a full bottle to wear during the Summer. I got several compliments while wearing this, which does not hurt. Happy sniffing!

missk

Chance Eau Vive managed to sneak into the Chance range without much of a fuss. I think it's possibly one of the least raved about Chanel releases for a long time. You wouldn't even know it existed unless you spent a considerable amount of time perusing the Chanel counter.

I have a love-hate relationship with the Chance collection. I owned Chance EDT for a few years before selling it on to someone that would enjoy it far better than me. I don't mind Chance Eau Fraiche, however I would never purchase a full bottle, and I find Chance Eau Tendre a little too similar to Marc Jacobs Daisy. Chance Eau Vive is my second favourite from this collection and that's saying something.

This fragrance is quite refreshing and crisp on the skin with biting citrus accords such as, grapefruit and blood orange. Chance Eau Vive is definitely a Spring/Summer fragrance. The scent could be worn by both men and women as the scent is neither sweet nor feminine. It actually contains a rather sharp, masculine vetiver accord which becomes more apparent in the drydown.

Unfortunately grapefruit dominant fragrances don't work with my chemistry which quickly cancels out this fragrance as a potential warm weather scent for my collection. I don't think Chance Eau Vive is Chanel's best fragrance, but in saying that I wouldn't mind smelling this scent on other people in close proximity.

For an EDT, Chance Eau Vive does last considerably well on the skin. I am interested to see how this fragrance fares with the die-hard Chanel fans and collectors.

Anne00

I've worn it yesterday, on a very hot day and in my opinion, this is the only Chanel perfume that is wearable on such a day. All the other ones are too musky or have too much patchoeli for (very) warm days. I guess it's the citrus that does the trick. But though it opens with a citrus blast, this citrus fades quite fast. I agree with the fact that this isn't such a complex fragrance as most Chanel perfumes are. Still, what happens after the big citrusy burst, is quite interesting. On my skin, the different notes aren't very noticable. They blend together and it's like they are very lightley sparkeled with some citrus.
It definitely has the Chanel signature.
Somtimes I reconise the orginal Chance and sometimes I notice a tiny bit of Coco Mademoiselle but with citrus instead of patchoeli.
I also layered it with Coco Mademoiselle body lotion which worked very well. Another prove of the Chanel signature.

So although I like fruity-florals in the summer, I sometimes miss my Chanel perfumes on those hot days. N°19 is one that is sometimes wearable on a hot day but it's a tricky lady. One day it works in the sun, the other day it becomes way too woody/herbal.
So like I already said: Eau Vive is the only one for me that really works during hot days.
I'm very happy to have found a Chanel for those days when I want to have something more classy, more mature than the 'classic' summer fragrances.

Another reason why I'm happy with this perfume, is that I got tired of Coco Mademoiselle. I still think it's a great perfume but in my country, every other woman and their sister is wearing it. Chance is also quite populair.
So I've been looking for something different with more or less the same DNA. And Coco Noir and Chance Eau Vive are the ones: Chanel without a doubt but different from what most women are wearing.

The only downside is the longevity. It radiates within arm lenght for about half an hour. After that, it stays close to the skin. But I guess that's what must 'summer fragrances' do. My only 'summer fragrance' that doesn't do that, is J'adore. But maybe it's also because I'm used of wearing quite heavy perfumes. So layering it with body lotion is probably a good idea as it gets indeed pricy when you have to re-apply this too many times during a day.

shaniks.fernando

2 years ago I got this as a birthday gift. 2 years later, I'm finally halfway through my 100ml bottle and my hearts breaking a little. This without a doubt is my FAVOURITE Chanel fragrance, followed closely by Coco Mademoiselle. It's bright, fresh, sparkling and just gorgeous! This without a doubt is my all time favourite fragrance, also followed very closely by Versace Eros pour Femme. Since I live in a hot tropic, it's very rarely that I indulge in my YSL manifesto or Lancôme la vie est belle. I reserve Number 5 along with those for December or when I'm traveling to the hills or anywhere colder. Chance Eau vive is PERFECT for hot tropical weather but what I've noticed is that even when worn in colder weather, it brings about a dark baroque very Chanel-esque vibe and it's breathtaking! So if you're from somewhere colder than the SUPER hot tropic of Sri Lanka, don't be afraid to get this. And no. It's absolutely NOT a basic fresh smelling musky smell. It's truly a work of art as Olivier Polge always does! Excited and awaiting to get my nose on Number 5 L'Eau! Sad to be late to that party!

joiedevivreh

This is the original Chance with a strong splash of grapefruit! Not quite as youthful as it sounds. Instead, the grapefruit feels a bit aged, mature. Definitely still suitable for a young lady in her 20s (or even younger), but it doesn't just feel like youth and life and brightness as "eau vive" might imply.

Soofiya

It was more than a year that I had this sample of chance eau vive and I was never eager to try it.back then I wasn't a Chanel girl.I also disliked citrus and woody scent but lately I'm loving any Chanel perfume I try so I had to give a go to eau vive
It opens very citrusy ad it's expected.I can easily pickup grapefruit and blood orange.well I have to confess it's citrus opening is lovely and is one of the rare citrus scents I enjoy
Usually sour, sharp, zesty citrus scent give me toothache.in eau vive citruses are very natural and fresh but they're not screechy and they have a little amount of sweetness to make them pleasant for me
It's a shame that this lovely citrus burst, fades away in less than 20 minutes.they were such refreshing, full of energy and happyness that I wanted them to last in fore front for hours not just linger lightly beneath middle and Base notes.good that it's other phase is also lovely.I can't detect much of iris but I can pickup musky jasmine which I loved so much in chance edp and even other chanels.there's also a hint of vetiver.I don't see eau vive as a very girly scent as it's soapy woody drydown has an adult and even a slight masculine vibe.on the other hand it's youthful opening make it a good choice for young generation so I see it as a fragrance wearable for a wide age range
I enjoy it's lovely, fresh citrus opening.also I like it's clean and classy soapy musk-jasmine-vetiver scent so I thought I have to add to my wishlist just like chance edp and tender but now that I'm smelling my hand(4 hours after application) there's a strong cedar note(orangey cedar) which ruins both feminity and cleanness of the drydown.it's a skin scent now but I don't want this strong cedar even on my skin
I have to try it more and see whether I really want it considering it's price tag or not

iamoir

Very basic on the citruses, more acrid than Eau Tendre, girly, fresh and summery, a cute and lovely fragrance. Sparkles in the morning. The fragrance does turn floral on the skin as well, some mixing of jasmine and iris, and then it's reminiscent of Eau Premiere. If you like Eau Premiere, you will like Eau Vive as well. Layered they are also beautiful.
It's okay. Nothing special but not totally uninteresting. Teens will be happy wearing it.

_christine_

Eau Vive is very fresh even in its musk and wood dry down notes. The zesty citrus opening is sadly gone in a flash, but the heart and bottom are good too if exceedingly short-lived. They lack the joyful blast that opens this fragrance, but they're fresh and mildly sweet.

Eau Vive is quite young and feminine - girlish rather than womanly. It's not a groundbreaking fragrance, but you can't expect that from a flanker. Eau Vive is evocative of Versace Eros, but I prefer to Eros overall. This one has greater longevity and more complex heart note.

debbiestar

This needs to be with you for a few days before you can actually start loving it or hating it as at the beginning it smells quite generic... I am in love with it now after a week! it's fresh and fruity, a little bit floral and musky and it gives me a really nice and happy feeling when I spray it on me...I feel energized!
The only thing is it doesn't last long on your skin, but add a little spray on your clothes and you will get a lot of compliments!

Camerynn

Yeah, this is hairspray to me. Not even an expensive kind. Like some grocery store brand I used as a teenager.

Granted, I didn't let it dry on my skin....I couldn't get that far.
To make it worth getting passed the initial sharp blast, it would have to mix with my chemistry in such a way that it turned into a damn unicorn.

There are much better ones than this overpriced bottle of Aquanet. No offense to anyone that likes it, could just be me and my picky nose! (No pun intended)

Adelaide Rocks

Much more aquatic/melon than I expected based on the notes. Sadly not for me.

lyn.cacha

Was at the Chanel store an hour ago to sniff the latest flanker. For some reason it really reminds me of the pricey air freshener i once used for my car. I must say though that it is zesty and orangey, something that will wake you up but it is not compelling enough to make me puchase it. In the end, i bought the eau fraiche and the No. 5 eau premiere.

remiflower

I will start off by saying that aquatics/citrus scents never go over well on my skin. They always tend to develop a "sharp" quality that is screechy to my nose. My friend on the other hand smells absolutely divine with clean perfumes. My exchange student came to visit and brought a bottle of this with her. She ended up leaving it for me because she had bought the wrong one. Needless to say I really wanted it to work on me. Chanel has some fabulous marketing and some really nice perfumes. The bottles have to be my favorite, such a clean and beautiful design. I tried it on today and let it wear on my skin and I seemed to be right on the verge of a headache. For such a simple citrus perfume this stuff was POTENT on me.The grapefruit seemed to just scream at everyone I came in contact with. Had to wash this off sadly. Smells lovely in the bottle. Perfumes like Hypnotic Poison and Fantasy tend to work best for me so this was certainly a polar opposite from what I normally gravitate towards. Perhaps one day I will find a Chanel that works well on my skin, but alas it is not this day.

courant

It's a melange of citrus at the beginning, those who enjoyed the limited edition of Prada's D'Oranger from the Infusion line will like this. Hanae Mori's No 3 is in the same category. I find the opening a bit screechy but the dry down is elegant enough, although it doesn't sing 'Chanel' to me and this marks it as the departure from Polge senior to his son as perfumer. It's tenacious, full marks for longevity when I have been alerted by poor performance to other Chanels being attenuated, so that's a plus for many.
The master of the grapefruit opening is Jean Claude Elena, with all 'Eau' Citrus tending to lose their power within an hour, so it is interesting to see Olivier Polge create a perfume that still leaves the impression of a full citrus, even if it's not quite there at the dry down. I can't say I would buy it again, it gets on my nerves a bit in the same way that No 19 Poudre does. I suspect I will update this perfume review as my experience of this fragrance wears in. For now I strongly recommend 'try before you buy' as this perfume doesn't relate well to the perfume that is 'Chance'

Christina Ivy

My favorite perfume of 2015, my new favorite 'Chance' along 'Eau Fraiche'(Green)!

It's very similar to 'Eau Fraiche' but more citruses, like the rest of the 'Chance' family, it also has great longevity and sillage power (which most fresh citrus perfumes tend to lacks both, an extreme example would be Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino Acqua, not even last on paper) without been over powering or annoying people around you.

Over all, this is pretty good and would really consider purchase full size. Haven't purchase yet for two reasons:

1. I'm trying to reduce the number of perfume I have, I have too many (10 full size, 7 barely used, one is still sealed) at the moment (I know there are members on this site who owns over 1,000 perfumes, as cool as it sounds that's just not practical for me);

2. Chanel is famous for their great marketing and Ad camping, pretty much all Chanel perfumes (apart from their niche collection) are super popular along all age group. Mature women and men using them as default, teenagers are trying to save up for their 'first Chanel'. Therefore, the risk of buying a full size Chanel perfume is you may end up smell like every women from age 16 to 60. Once I loved 'Coco Mademoiselle', but after sniff it all over town for half a decade I got tired of it. I do know it's a great one, but now it only bores me.

That's also the reason why I don't own any perfume from Chanel so far.

However, if you are new to the world of perfume, and would really like to own a full size perfume from Chanel. This would be a great choice, it's totally beginner friendly.

elm0505

Too aquatic for my taste, a total NO for me. I can't even feel the citrus...

aura_therapy

I smelled this for the first time yesterday at Sephora. I liked it and was given a small decant sample. After a few days of wearing it I still like it, but I wore Lucky You by Liz Claiborne in college and this is its dupe. It is nice, but I can buy that one all day long at TJ Maxx for $12.99.

daegwynn.1

I love the original Chance but somehow only smell pineapples... And it becomes a bit overwhelming at times. I have tried wearing it and failed repeatedly. Eau Vive on the other hand is, while undoubtedly part of the Chance family,as clear and translucent as if something created by Issey Miyake. A very positive, feminine scent for all year round everyday wear. The drydown with its vetiver and cedar reminds me of Estee Lauder Pleasures, evoking a similar feel of a rainwashed summer garden.

kre

I love this smell, it is so discrete yet classy, fresh and adorable. I have the Eau Tendre as well and I find both extremely good. They are light so you can put a lot on without exaggerating and enjoy the fresh energizing fragrance. Love!

samlovefragrance

The scent is lovely:) I love Chanel fragrances and i'm also very critical about some issues concerning them , mostly the ridiculous watered down N.5 edt of the past decade ( i don't miss one opportunity to mention this lol). The reviews about Chance eau vive are a mixed bag, but after trying it and getting acquainted with it, it's an adorable (yes that's the right word) addition to the Chance family.

Right away, the very Italian blood orange is gorgeous, mixed with the zestier grapefuit. A very uplifting opening, not at all a typical sharp citrus, but a full bodied crimson red citrus accord. Sparkly but rounded, like the aldehydic N.5 top. Everything falls beautifully into place, followed by a warmer polished jasmine infused musk, and the iris and soft woods, all lending a classy Chanel feel.
The fragrance is simultaneously modern and classic, the base having no patchouli or vanilla (thank God) has a vintage feel of musk and powdery florals, recalls a summery version of the Cuir de Russie drydown.
I do feel it lacks longevity though... i do have to test it more to see, could be a new issue with Chanel :)

scent: 8/10
longevity: 4/10
sillage: 5/10

As a girl who loves Chanel fragrances--for years--I was a little skeptical about Chance Eau Vive. This being the first scent by Olivier Polge after the retirement of his beloved father Jacques Polge, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Most of my favorite and signature scents were created by the amazing Jacques Polge and happy to say Olivier's first Chanel scent was not a gourmand Patchouli bomb! Yay!! Chanel scents are rich & soft at the same time and utterly feminine and Chance Eau Vive does not disappoint. The orange, very citrusy opening is soft and alluring rather than sharp and the soft musk dry down is reminiscent of the original Chance. Also noticeable is the jasmine and sexy iris to lock in that date-night feel during warm summer evenings. I've sampled a few times now--my bottle of Chance Eau Tendre is nearly gone--guess I'm buying this soft, sexy scent to carry my through the summer. Thanks Chanel & Olivier for another delightful fragrance to make memories by.

blake.lee

Soapy iris and grapefruit. I really don't like this version of Chance.

Dani-G

This is the absolute NUMBER ONE PERFUME.
So fresh, so feminine, so strong and magic!
This is the 1st Chanel I've ever liked. Not liked. ADORED!
I sprayed it at 5 p.m. to test it, I did a lot of things after I came back home incl. having BATH (!), now it's 00:10 o'clock and I can still smell it!
I believe it would be a nice choice for colder days, too!

Jenlig7

This is my all time favorite perfume. It's so beautiful! I am picky and the only other thing I've smelled that smells this good is dolce and gabbana light blue. The men's version.
This is strong and lasts just about all day.

Berta15

I love this beauty!Yes,It´s typical Chanel fragrance, because it gives a nice soapy feeling,a fresh but elegant, playful but mature.I have to say that for me is like a very watered down, very very light coco mademosielle, like said some people before.Very lovely citrus opening gives me a happy feeling, that I have energy for everything, than the soapy musky jasmine in the dry down shows how elegant how feminine is this perfume.
Now I wear it every single day,and I fall in love with it.This is ME,when I wear this I feel confident,independent,feminine,elegant.....so everything!
The lasting power on me is veryyy gooood, and the bottle is very classy, simple, minimalistic.
Love Love Love & Love

tinaelisa

@Miguel Harris, I agree! I was just wearing chance eau vive a few days ago and noticed the exact same thing. Eau vive does remind me of coco mademoiselle, but a much fresher version. I think they would be great layerd too, if you are in need of a bit of fresh zingyness to your coco mademoiselle.

updated review

my bottle of eau Vive is shipping can't wait

Vive is a fragrance you have to spend time with... after a good couple of days of back to back wearing if Miss Dior & Very Hollywood had a love child it would be eau Vive

I would compare it to coco mademoiselle cause the resemblance is there but the top notes are more similar to miss Dior being so juicy and tart

while wearing this to the gym i actually for the first time realized how floral this fragrance really is... it went from this juicy candied orange nectar to this grapy white floral bouquet of jasmine / warm gardenia, the orange scent became a little more mellow before the entire thing dried down to musk and woody notes

but I think this would've been better as a coco mademoiselle spin off than chance... it fits the bill better as a juicer, lighter, more floral version of mademoiselle

Kon-nos91

Just wow. Although Eau Vive's citrus character supposed to be more fresh, sporty and active, to me it's addictive, classy and a hint of citric sweetness.

I don't feel like I can write more. Chance is the mother of all Chances editions. Eau Tendre is my favorite for a strange reason, Eau Fraiche is the bolder and clearly citrus/fresh one, then the lighter Eau Vive that gives a unique sweet citrus feeling.

All Chances editions except from the original EDP, EDT and Eau Fraiche give an airy aromatic feeling. Eau Tendre and Eau Vive are very soft but at the same time very long lasting. It's like they 'aromatise' lightly your olfactory senses. That's what I recognize to their quality. To end with, I could easily gift Eau Vive as it's a safe option for all ages and types of character. A watered down base of classic Chance together with the top/middle notes of sugared citrus and boldness of grapefruit = Eau Vive edition.

venush

Great summer scent. Citruses, cedar and iris.
Longevity and projection is great on me. More than 10 hours of divine freshness. Everybody in the office made good remarks. Good work Chanel!

Candy Rose

Chance Eau Vive is a stunning summer scent. This works so well on a hot day, especially if I'm not into smelling sweet that day. Fresh, flirty and fun. The zesty citrus notes are gorgeous and the dry down brings about another dimension with the jasmine and musk.

emi

I'ts a bit aquatic somehow. I don't get grapefruit unfortunately....

sarage

This is a very pleasant scent. Something, that could easily become my everyday scent. Very easy to wear, not challenging in any ways. It's fresh and elegant. I don't like iris, but in this scent it doesn't bother me a bit.
The citruses remain dominant, and that's what I like.

margoval

Seeing the long Dislike bar I thought this must be really bad smelling and I lost any will to test it. Later on a girl in the mall gave me a sample and I found out that it was in fact a beautiful scent. Then I actually started reading the reviews and realized that the problem that people see with this perfume is its price and the fact that it's just...pleasant. Putting the price issue aside, there is nothing wrong with Eau Vive. Uplifting at first but quickly settling to a lovely mixture of flowers and musk. It is feminine and romantic. I won't buy it because of the price but I find it very beautiful nonetheless.

Taxidermy

To me Chance Eau Vive is divine. Maybe even better than the lemony Chance Eau Fraiche (the original Chance is my favorite so far). The top notes are quite generic and disappointing, so I can understand the frustration, but you have to wait and let it bloom on your skin - it's really magical. Chance Eau Vive is not all about the grapefruit and blood orange, no no, it's so much more than that. It really has the distinctive Chanel DNA, and, like Chance Eau Fraiche, it's reminiscent of its predecessor. I'm wearing it right now, and it's snowing outside. It might be meant for summer use, but you can easily wear it all year round.

LieneHelena

I adore the scent of blood oranges and vetiver, so I was waiting it's release like a little girl, but when I finally tested it, I wasn't impressed but kept the paper card in my pocket. I smelled it next day and liked the soft scent so I gave it a second try. The more I wear this scent, the more I fall in love with it. It's uplifting, optimistic and has helped me to battle with Winter Blues. I reach for it often, and even got another bottle in fear this could be discontinued too quickly, as it seems it doesn't get much love. I love the phases it goes trough, from juicy fruitiness, then the florals came out to play, and the soft woody veil it leaves. It's never artificial or cloying on my skin, as it wraps me in this silky bright scent. I guess I'm lucky I took a chance on you Eau Vive.

Mrs.Allard

Very citrusy. The citrus is so realistic too. It smells like very sweet Orange juice with sugar. It love how it dries down, very soft sweet citrus and floral. I have a sample of it from Sephora and want to go back to buy a bottle of it.

Mellyhelly

This is quite nice on my skin and probably the only one I like in the Chance line.
Unexpectedly I liked the citrus opening. I like most citrus in an opening, but I'm non a fan of grapefruit in perfumes for sure.
Not an original one here.
After the initial citrus burst, it becomes more floral, but jasmine? I'm not sure.
I like the softly woody drydown which keep together with a trace of citrus till then end.
It has low sillage and long duration.
It's a fragrance that could be worn in hot climate, because it's not too cloying.
Honestly I cannot see the urge of making such a perfume.
All in all it's nice, but a bit forgettable maybe.
Not a big Chanel.

Male...
Longevità 7/10
Sillage 6.5/10
Profumo 4.5/10

I want to love this. I think for me the grapefruit is just too strong. It is very citrus and musk, but the grapefruit really stands out and is bitter to me. the bitter paired with the floral just isnt for me. I do not get a lot of woody drydown. I guess just not for me. I imagine a woman in her 30s wearing this. Spring or summer fragrance. Definitely professional work friendly though its laid back perfume, so fine for everyday.

Sitting here smelling it I think its just not enough personality in this. I dunno. Doesnt have anything really interesting. At least on me. I might try this again in the spring and summer and see if it changes with the warmer weather.

veynor11

Initially it is like big blast of generic citrus. It takes time to develop. It changes quickly and passes through some florals and dries down to cedar and iris with the citrus present throughout the scent . It takes time to show itself. This perfume is not a showgirl in the window baring it all.It is sophisticated, elegant and sheer quality. My favourite of all the Chance range.

Cloudburst2000

I really like this fragrance. It helps if you are a citrus lover because this is definitely a scent for citrus lovers. It stays pretty much citrus from beginning to end with just hints of floral/woody notes. And for a citrus fragrance, it has amazing longevity. Most citrus fragrances don't have great lasting power that this lasts all day on me without having to be resprayed.

Creamdeviolet

the most horrible citrus out there, actually had me a moment like " what the F did i just smell? "

(Pretty much the same review from my old username, just updated)

I got a first sniff of this perfume this summer, from a magazine sample and it's been staying on my mind and my wish list ever since. Then a month ago I finally got the chance to purchase it - I will say just this: for me this is HAPPINESS in a bottle! I can feel mostly the fresh, citrusy notes but without the slight bitterness I have encountered in other similar scents, it's a delicate, feminine fragrance, both youthful and classy.

To me usually all fragrances I'm wearing are more than a scent, they are a state of mind, a whim, a mood ;) And I'd say that Eau Vive is a happy, confident and optimistic state,it fully lives up to its name.

TakaBeata

The most popular my version Chanel Chance :) .
At the beginning feels red Grapefruit. Then delicate notes woods, of fruit and to the end sweet iris.
This scent is good-humoured , elegant on every time.
Nicely it smells also on clotheses.
:)

I do not like this fragrance.
There are two types of citrus that I really enjoy: One is a tart, but sweetened citrus, like the impression I get from squeezing a fresh orange. The other is a soft, clean citrus, like that present in D&G Light Blue.

This is neither of those. (I will disclaim that I like the way it smells on paper, but not on my skin). On my skin the grapefruit is bitter and sour, almost rancid. It is so sharp. It is definitely the dominant note. The other notes in this fragrance don't make sense with so much citrus. I get strong, sharp citrus, then bright jasmine, powdery iris and smooth cedar. It is unfortunate, because I enjoy the other Chanel Chance fragrances, but that combination of sharp citrus and smooth powdery notes smells like bathroom cleaner. Sharp citrus smells with some other artificial scents to try to soften the overwhelming citrus.

I can say that this fragrance is very long-lasting! I tried on the Chance eau fraiche yesterday and wish it lasted half as long as this one! I would recommend any of Chanel's fragrances over this one.

well... I've been in love with Chance L'Eau Tendre from the first days of it's appearance on the market. I smelled Eau Vive right after it appeared in the stores and to be honest, I didn't get much impressed...
However, I got this one on my birthday and decided to give a chance after all.. and it's great.. of course, it's not L'eau Tendre, my everlasting love, but it's good. Especially in the winter period. The first thing I smell are the grapefruits, which I adore and it gives slight refreshment in the cold morning.. So far, we're ok in our relationships :) but It's still not my beloved Chanel fragrance

Heleniko

Smells so masculine on my skin. Longevity is very good. Unique enough, but not my favourite.

Black Lavender

Smells like all the chances put together but much lighter. And it has a weird "twang" that I can't describe but do not like. It's slightly crisp/fresh, but not as fresh as Eau Fraiche or as dry as Chance. It's floral but not as floral as Eau Tendre. Not good enough, Chanel !!!!!

nvenus

Seems like there's less floral notes in this one, is that why everyone who love Chanel hates this one?
I'm not good at Chanel fragrances but I've guessed they're all ordinary, "elegant" (a bit boring), too safe and too floral. This one should be the most special, I should try it

Ludicolo

Eau Vive is by far my favorite from this line.
Finally a Chance that is actually wearable without sacrificing anything.
Not to mention, this is the third flanker.. how often do these things turn out well?!
I'm sure you already know the answer to that one.
Thankfully, Eau Vive does not fall into the negative statistics so to speak.
A wonderful surprise!
To be honest, I'm quite baffled by the rather high amount of dislikes.

I finally got around to actually spritzing it on me today (as opposed to just sniffing the tester bottle), and that's when I realised that Eau Vive is indeed very similar to 1932 from the Les Exclusifs.
I mean, it's not identical or anything (obviously) but they do have a lot in common (to my nose).

Not that strange really, as they are both floral woody musks from the same house.
At the very least they share notes of iris, jasmine, musk, vetiver, citrus and and even though not listed on Eau Vive, probably aldehydes too.

To be honest, the original Chance always smelled sharp and unpleasant to me, and while Eau Tendre & Eau Fraiche are nice and pretty enough, they always smelled a bit too "meh" IMO.
Nothing special, at least not by the CHANEL standards and prices.
This Eau Vive on the other hand.. it just hits all the right spots.
Elevating aldehydes, graceful iris, refreshing citrus and soft, pillowy musk...
What's not to like? (Well, a lot I suppose if you dislike those notes)!

Sparkling, crystalline and timeless are words that come to mind when I smell Eau Vive/1932.
Both highly wearable and versatile scents without a single trace of "boringness"!
I can't picture a place or scenario in which either of these two would be seen as inappropriate.

If you like 1932 but find it a bit too expensive/hard to find, then Eau Vive could be a really good alternative for sure!
I probably won't buy it myself as I don't really need it (already have 1932) although it's still tempting...
As far as love/like/dislike goes it's a strong like for me.

melissa

Got this for my birthday. Love the subtle earthy drydown. On me, it smells like a soft spicy citrus..hope they come out with other products in it for layering.

Tovah

Chance is still one of my top 5 favorite scents and it's still the one that gets the most compliments everywhere. Its flankers all radiate a jasmine that I don't project when wearing the original. When others wear Eau Fraiche, I think they smell pretty, but Eau Vive is just not for me. I think there's too much cedar; and it's a damp, mildewy cedar for me. Grapefruit, which I generally don't like to wear, and jasmine, layered with powdery, metallic iris, are a very unpleasant combo for me. Unlike the previous flankers, this doesn't remind me of Chance...it seems like a completely different fragrance. Why not just give it a new name? (Probably "Chance Eau Vive Fraiche eau de toilette" is too awkward). Also, the commercial...bowling? For a Chanel?...BOWLING?

vanillaflower77

I love this! I sprayed this on a card and my friend said it smells like "kindness"
I bought the 1.7 and I am in love.

tinaelisa

I tried it for the second time now on skin and like it better than before. The first time it was just horribly soapy on me, not much else. This time a get a very fresh and strong grapefruit with a bit of soapiness, but now it goes well together. Sillage is strong. It a great fresh, soapy grapefruit fragrance.

nadiadncr

Like many others said this was a pleasant surprise. Once you spray it it's very fresh and awakening a nice true citrus scent. Imagine you peeled some citrus fruit and that burst of freshness hits you. Then it dries down to a marriage of eau tendre and eau fresh. It stays well and projects great I already received compliments. After the 3rd day I was wearing it I couldn't smell it as much and I think if they come up with a lotion or a body spray it will help the smell project more. So far I love it.

pinkchevalier

As is the case with a lot of Chanel fragrances, when I first tested this I disliked it. But I was somewhat intrigued. I'm not a huge fan of Chance, but I don't dislike it - I find it appealing, yet for me, somewhat too similar with Coco Mad to justify also owning. In theory, I like Eau Fraiche but find it too "astringent" for me. I have a soft spot for the Eau Tendre and own the largest bottle, but it's sort of a comfort scent. The Eau Vive for me is at once simplistic and yet challenging. The initial citrus burst is actually unique for its market audience and the drydown is very clean musk, jasmine heavy. It's refreshing, soothing yet invigorating in the hot and humid weather. It's also so clean cut that I can't get sick of it. Inadvertently after wearing it for a week, I'm enarmored even if it's not the most complex scent.

MissHiss

Just got a sample of this in a magazine. I really like it. Light and just a tad powdery. I will be adding this to my collection for sure.

ScarlettX

I can't believe there's so many bad reviews and dislikes. I like it, but as many others here, I like other Chances better. Chance Eau Fraiche the most.
At the beginning it was nicely fruity and citrusy. After a few hours it turned out to be musky white floral with some woody notes. Not bad, but I liked the top notes better.
It's not my favorite from Chanel, but it's still good. I think it's simple, carefree, modern classic.

sonia.kassambara

I sampled this in the store, did two sprays. It sits on my skin and did not develop. It opens as a sharp, tangy citrus Jasmine fog. The smell is strong, like an auntie with bright lipstick who grips you for a hug. The scent is made of quality ingredients however in the end I respected the sent but didn't like it. The effect was akin to Benjamin Button: smells like a grandmother, then an auntie, then a sweet young lady. Unfortunately, my favorite perfumes tend to start young then end sexy and grown. This lasted about eight hours, but when you don't like it that is not a plus. Definitely try before you buy.

Mochahantas

This started off AWESOME. There is this juicy, bright burst of grapefruit. I felt some of the blood orange peeking in. The woods come in JUST enough to stop the overwhelming pink grapefruit from being to sharp and metallic. Then, it started to dry down. The woods decided to walk to the front. The grapefruit and blood orange decides they're tired and don't want to play in the sandbox anymore, so they walk home, and very quickly might I add. 10 mins later, Chanel Chance the original...Nothing more, nothing less. Dude, I'm so dissapointed!

MademoiselleMaya

This one is very bad - so chemical it gives me a headache even though I can barely smell it after 15 minutes, it burns my olfactory epithelium, I'm aware I have something chemical and irritating on me for a couple of hours though. A nightmare! Eau Vive name announces lively composition this is the opposite - limp, lifeless, horrible, chemical, cheap-smelling mess. Just terrible. The first Chanel I dislike. So sad.

LoveMeDo7

I've decided these aren't bad reviews, they're heartbroken love letters to the great Jacques Polge. In the words of Coco Chanel herself, "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." And he was... He was the BEST! Much love Monsieur Polge ~ your place in history will last forever. Olivier has stepped into his father's very large shoes and created this fresh & zesty scent. Bonne chance Olivier as the new nose of Chanel. :)

RosieRachel

I believe that much of the dislike for this perfume is because many people feel strongly that Chanel can do better (and I do agree). Reformulations and a new perfumer aside, I like this perfume, but it is definitely not one of Chanel's best.

The opening of Eau Vive is all about the fresh, sweet and slightly tangy blood orange, before it disappeared in about 20 minutes flat. I was pretty disappointed. As I thought that it had worn off, I went to the gym and as I was exercising a very soft, sweet jasmine dry-down with musk and cedar emerged. My gym instructor loved it!

I will give my kudos to Chanel, because this is one of the few perfumes in this genre that hasn't given me a headache. This also doesn't smell generic to my nose; it's light, pretty and elegant, suitable for office environments and the summertime. It is, however, missing that 'je ne sais quoi' which Chanel perfumes have become synonymous for. I don't feel that this is as special as something like the iconic No. 5. My nose also became tired of the smell very quickly, but although I couldn't smell this one on me, others could. Very soft sillage; lasts for about 6-7 hours.

Germany

I am not understanding the dislikes for eau vive , I find it fresh and pleasant and so appropriate for many occasions. I find the whole chance line youngish so to say , which doesn't mean it also smells great on any age , I find it very nice on me and prefer it to the rest of the chances by far , except for tendre which remains my favourite of the 4 some , closely followed by the new eau vive , I find it fresh, clean, sweet and very appropriate !
I even find it unisex , especially in the drydown.

Ms. Cherie

This is fun and lady-like for summer and has low sillage and so makes a great office appropriate scent. One spray on each inner elbow lasts 4-5 hours and that's not unreasonable. Very happy to have it in my collection!

GoodVibrations

Olivier is on the right track! Grapefruit, bitter orange, and spice fun! In two to three hours it's a skin scent. Take a Chance take a Chance take a take a Chance Chance on longevity. Knowing me knowing you, it's not the best I can do.
